OMP/EG Aircraft 30% Yak SP-55M build
I am buiding 2 new huck monsters this winter. One arrived yesterday from OMP. The new OMP/EG Aircraft 30% Yak SP-55M!
Here is a link to OMP. They have a incredable deal with the DLE55 for $300 too! I picked one up but I am planning on my DA50 in this bird right now with a pitts muffler.

I do have some pics I will share soon.

Here is a pic of the interlocked motor box reinforced with tristock. Pic 2 shows the carbon fiber reinforced fuse.

Looks good. What do you think of the plane so far (construction, hardware, etc.)? I too was looking at jumping on OMP's xmas special.

I think it is awesome personally. Hardware is good! Shipping was like 1 day from Ohio to Illinois.
The covering was excelent. I have mounted the gear, canopy, and cowl. All screw holes line up.

tuned pipe...I don't think so with out minor mods I beleive. You can ask John at OMP if you call them.

I don't see why OMP wouldn't ship to Canada.

I was just talking to John yesterday and shipping one to Canada is not a problem, the problem is all the extra costs by the time it gets here. If there was someone here who carried them a lot of the extra costs would be minimized.

Update on my build.
I have the motor hung and am working on mounting the throttle servo and ignition electronics.
I have been gathering pieces and parts and working on the layout of the rest of the plane.
One thing to note is that the preassembled fuel tank comes with thin walled clunck line so I would replace that. This should be SOP on all preassembled tanks. I use the original tubing as a pattern to cut the new clunk line.

Well I have designed my graphics and made plenty of progress on the build. I will post the build picks tomorrow. I have decised to go to a canister type muffler to keep the cowl clean.
here is my graphics layout. I will be using B&E graphics.

Here are some pics of my progress. I am using a choke servo. Here is the ignition/Nimh battery install and a shot of the motor box.

These are pics of the fuel dot install. I had to build a spot to place it. I used ply to fill in the lightening hole then covered the area in 1/64" ply to tie it all together.

Here are a couple of pics of the receiver mounting platforms. I didn't get a shot of the receiver installed. I am sure it will show up in future photos.
I simply made a peice of ply the size of the receiver, glue spacing rails to the bottom, and added the velcro straps and padding. The only secret here is not to span plywood that your receiver mounts to without midspan support. If the midspan is not supported the plywood can resonate from the airframe vibrations and amplify the vibration the receiver feels. that can equal receiver damage. The receivers are going between the batteries and the regulators.

Here are a couple of pics of the cowling cutouts. I have decided to go with a canister muffler system to save the cowl. So far all I have had to cut was the air outlet and the plug hole. I will open the bottom of the fuse in the canister area to allow for more air outlet. I also got the fuel system buttoned up.

What size battery are you using for ignition? Also, which regulators are you using? They look like Fromco's, but which model? How about receiver packs? -Chris

Just got my SP-55 in the mail today! The DLE-55 should be a few days behind it. Everything looks great. I'm going with A123's on receiver and ignition. Will start the build tonight!

Well finally home. I took everything out of the box and I'm fairly impressed. Mine is missing the manual (either that or it is taped to something that I didn't see, even though I checked every place). OMP's manual on their website doesn't work, so I guess I'm on my own. The hatch leaves a little to be desired fit wise, but maybe it will sit better once screwed down.

All right, picture time. Got the gear together and bolted to the fuse. Fit is very good and the half-spats fit nicely. The wheels are kind of cheesy looking so I may replace them with something a bit nicer. Also shown is my GP Su-31, which is my largest plane to date, with an O.S. 1.60FX. Initial quality on the OMP is good, but I would say that my Su-31 is better. Hope the OMP flies better!
