H9 Extra 330 1/3/scale servo problem???
Hi Guys,
Ive picked up a s/h Hanger 9 Extra 330, in the wings it has holes for 2 servos per wing, on the H9 website and on a few vids ive watched on Youtube it only shows 1 servo per wing, so problem ive got is knowing if its been modified? do i fit 2 servos per wing or do i fit 1 and cover the holes over?? i plan to use Futaba 9402 coreless servos, i dont fly 3D, just basic aerobatics.......what do you think i should do??
Dave.

Fly mine with one inboard power HD 9150 on each wing, many flights no problem, think the outboard open hole grabs air for good elevator landings.

I second that you should be runing two servos per wing and the elevators do they have holes for two servos too? Is that plane not 33% or 35% Same thing they should have two servo per wing for sure. What size engine are you guys running 85 or 100cc? It is a beautiful plane can you post some photos of it please?

Definitely 2 sevos per wing, and use good ones. Risking your model, and spectators, to an improperly equipped flying buzzsaw would be borderline negligent. Jusst because someone else says they have gotten away with it does not make it an intelligent thing to do.
Specifically, the very first 33% H9 Extra was shipped with a 1 servo configuration. After many of them fluttered and crashed Hangar 9 shipped modified (2 servo) wings free of charge. Now, think of that, if it were safe and prudent to fly them with one servo, why would Hangar 9 go through that expense? There were some who removed the aileron and stregthened the structure to accomodate a single, strong, servo but that was a very arduous task.

your asking for a flutter situation by using only the inboard servo. I use two 7985 on each wing. You say many flights. It will happen eventualy

Hi Guys,
Thanks alot for all your inputs, i will go with using the two servos then if this is the modified wings that were supplyed by Hanger 9, ive flown mostly Ziroli size warbirds, and this is my largest airobatic model ive owned, this is 97" ive got a 3W 70cc for it with smoke, i will try to post some photos of it and the underside of the wing showing the twin servo arangement.
Dave.

Why a TH400? Ford C6 Trans are pretty stout if built right.

400 is a great tranny, a thm 350 built right is better tho and ya gain 25hp to the rear wheels over the 400. upgraded spragues are a must. Im running a 350 behind my 550 hp stroker and the only thing i ever bust is drive lines.
on the h9 extra, I fly one with a 100cc on it, has twin 5945's on each wing, actuall all around 1 each ele halve and two on the rudder. dont go single. they are a excellent all around flyer, you will love it. You can download the maual from horizon yet.
I was more worried about aileron flex then servo power on mine. That was the reason for two mid power servo's over one with monster torque.

that looks like the older version of the Extra. Servo pockets look a little close. Are you sure that's factory?

That is definitely not factory. Someone modded the original one pocket version. Since H9 did not ask for the originals back when they sent out replacements, there were plenty version 1 sets floating around.

iIf you really want to do it up, strip the ailerons, build in some cross bracing and sheet them. Now they are stiff enough for one servo and you have a lighter plane. If you want to research it, there is a thread where a fellow did just that waaaay back in the day. IIRC it was in Mike McConvilles support forum.
