Default Giant Ugly Stick

Hi all

I am getting ready to build a Giant Ugly Stick (Model Builder Version), I am in the process of finding all the hard to get bits.

This is where I am up o:-

Plan

Model Builder Magazine from 1979

Engine :- Webra Bully 35 Glow engine as new with a 20x8 Master airscrew and a tru turn spinner

Muffler :- Tatone Universal from the nice guys at MECOA

Nose Leg :- FULTS RF700 On order

Servos:- I have 2x FP34 1/4 scale and 4 x Hitec HS400 1/4 scale Servos (They are not the newest but should work fine)

Large amount of 1/4 x 1/2 inch spruce

Wheels I have 2 x 1/4 cub wheels and one Dubro 4 inch wheel for the nose.

Undercart :- ??? Do I make one or can I buy one?

Wing Ribs:- Do I cut my own or buy a short Kit? $169.00, or can you just get ribs laser cut anywhere? everything else is easy to make just big.

Has any one else built one, do youhave any tips what not to do?

Any input would be helpful

Thanks

The ribs shouldn't be hard to cut on a band saw and then finish sanded to shape. Oh, and I have heard that the Bully converts to gas fairly easily.

How much work do you WANT to DO??

AMR makes a nice series of kits for the Stick, several sizes, High wing & Low wing even a twin. All lazer cut and fully equiped.

Yours to consider.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the input

The ribs for the Model Builder GIANT STICK, look like hard work......yes i could do them on my band saw and scroll saw, but they would be a pain
as they are made of a rib plus 2 sub ribs.

I am going to keep my bully 35 as a glow engine, less stuffing around I am not that worried by my fuel bill as the the engine only needs 5-10% oil and at the most 5% nitro,I suspect being a Webra it will be quite happy on no nitro , the largest cost when mixing fuel is the OIL and nitro here in the land down under.

I have decided the best way will be to order a short kit from Laser Cut kits Australia, this will make life easer.

I will post some pic's of the kit once I order it

Has any one else built a Giant Ugly stick?

I built that one.If it is 90" wingspan? I put a 45 on it I cut the parts in a couple of hours, very easy to do. give it a go. .http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_90...tm.htm#9083396
