27% Extra 300 plan by John E. Egle
Greetings.
I have an Extra 300 plan by John E. Egle of Naples, FL.
It is 27%, 80", his plan #580, and there are a few things
about it I would like to get clarfied.
Has anyone heard of it, built one or know Mr. Egle??
Thanks in advance.

RE: 27% Extra 300 plan by John E. Egle
My questions are:
What canopy was used on the prototype? (there is no mention on the plan).
My guess would be the Giant Scale Midwest Extra canopy, but I'm not sure).
I do know that the Miwest Extra cowl is 1/2" too tall, so whether or not the
other accesories from Midwest Extra kit were used is still unknown.
The gear called out on the plan is suppposed to be from the Goldberg Sukoi
and on the drawing measures 6" tall. At the TNT web site, their gear for the
CG Sukoi is 8 1/2" tall. Maybe not a big big deal, but it's not even close.
Those are the 2 main questions I have.
Thanks.

I built several of the Midwest kits, so you post sparked my interest,, I sure would be curious to see pictures of the plans and detail on where you got them, are the total scratch building plans? or was there a kit made?
Well, if it's the 300s Model, then I guess the Midwest Canopy would work fine,,
Gear should be easy to match up too,, The midwest kit sat pretty low,,maybe that why he wanted taller gear (grass run ways??)
tnt has this one
Good luck

Thanks for your thoughts. Yes, it is a scratch build plan. I purchased the plan from Steve O.,
of Lesiure (Jack Stafford) models and Smith Miniplane fame. Steve doesn't recall much about
the origin of the plan unfortunately. He was kind enough to send me photos today of the cowl
and canopy with dimensions from the Midwest kit. The cowl is too big but like you said, the
canopy may be close enough. The plan shows cross sections of foam for 3/4" layers that can
be shaped and then made into fiberglass by the "lost foam" technique, which I hve done
several times. It appears to be a more lightly constructed model than the Midwest kit and
I think a Moki 1.8, or one of the new generation 35cc gas engines would be a good match.
What did you power your Extra's with?? Thanks again for your interest.
