    Hangar 9 Carden Edition 89" Extra 300 Mid-Wing ARF

    I just finished up my H9 Carden Extra - Here are some pics and info

    Overall a very nice plane high quality and parts fit -VERY QUICK AND EASY ASSEMBLY .

    Flies very smooth and precise and on high rates it will rival any 50 cc on 3D - excels in waterfalls , knife edge , knife edge spins

    With OS 55gt power is good - and you can do any 3d maneuver in the book

    I have flown it 8 times

    plane really locks in on land and feels like its on auto pilot
    excels in waterfalls , knife edge , knife edge spins , harriers , harrier landing
    landing gear is good solid aluminum
    I love the landing gear fairing beteween fuselage and landing gear for a little scale effect (not shown in my pics)
    1 thing that I recommend is to dremel off some material on the canopy/hatch right above fuel tank - mine was rubbing during iniatil engine tuning and a slight dremel sanding wheel fixed the problem - no biggie
    hatch and canopy are all one piece and have balsa structure underneath - plus it is painted with a perfect match to the cowling in a high gloss automotive looking paint . so there fore you wont have wrinkled covering on your hatch witch is usually common .

    I put some rivets and scale details on mine to add some fun to my build - and do a little research on the full size Extra 300 mid

    they recommend a 3 3/4 spinner but I went with a 4 " pau

    I'm also building a Carden extra and must say the level of prefabrication is quite impressive.....all the time consuming work is done.

    I plan to go a different route to power it by the new eflite 60cc motor with a castle2 160hv to handle the 6000 watts of power this motor will have!!!!http://www.horizonhobby.com/products...80kv-EFLM4360A

    Waiting on little nick nack parts to arrive to start assembly

    If it was not for the drop in electric option I would go gas.

    I don't have any first hand experience with the 50cc H9's, but read lots of stories over their Yak release a few years ago, hopefully this model will fair better publically.

    I was looking at this plane but in other forums I'm reading about issues with the canopy bubbling up very quickly in the sun. Anyone have any issues with this?

    Is this airframe set up for a canister exhaust? Or is that going to require a big time modification? Thinking about the DLE 55RA with a canister.

    Nevermind. I downloaded the manual from Horizon and found my answer. Yes, it is canister ready.

    I flew this at an IMAA event last weekend.

    It's a very nicely built plane. Any canopy can bubble in the sun especially in the south.

    In general I liked it a lot. What it isn't is an extreme 3D plane, mechanically you can't get the throws to toss it around like planes that are built for slinging around.

    For IMAC style flying and doing what an Extra is designed to do though it's a very nice plane that looks good. I wasn't sure about that green scheme but after seeing it in person I think it looks good.

    I just ordered one along with a new DLE-61. Any recommendations on servos? Prefer Futaba.

    the whole slide a wire up the vertical stab to mount the rudder was not fun! Lots of work done right out,of the box but,the rudder assembly is a little,amateur IMHO.

    First flight on the Extra today and all I can say is WOW! Hangar9 really out did themselves once again.....a bolt together TOC bird! Small issue with some of the wing trim coming off during the 1st flight (I will contact Horizon and see what happens) also the canopy bubbled a little in the sun (only :10 minutes) but it looks a little "oil can" now.

    Plane flies as Bucky says (the first post in this thread) I really liked the pre-hinged ailerons and elevators......also my new DLE-55 bolted right on with no
    modification what so ever. I had a new DLE-61 but was too lazy to redo the firewall so I downgraded the 61 to a 55. The airplane has PLENTY of power with
    a DA-60 or DLE-55.

    On with the flight test program and getting her dialed in!
