Default Pilot Extra 330 24% ?

Hi Guys,
I probably should have asked here before ordering but............

I just ordered a Pilot Extra 330 and Hitec 5645 servo's. I am more of a scale plane flyer and builder. This plane is for my 7 year old grandson. I have a new DLE-30 for the plane for power and plan on installing a 6v 2000 ma NiMh battery for the radio and a 4.8v 2,000 ma NiMh battery for the ignition.

My grandson is interested in 3D flying and will get some help for guys at the field who are into 3D. He has been flying my 30cc Stick and fly's the thing better than me. Anyhow will this plane perform well with the set-up described? Also what prop would you recommend for 3D performance?

Thanks!!
Anthony

I received the plane today, I have to say I am very impressed and surprised by the quality of the plane. I plan on going over all the glue joints I can reach but at 1st glance they look to be well glued. Also the covering job is very nice and tight. I will be picking up the servo extensions tomorrow after work and a few other odds and ends I had the local H/S order in for me.

I didn't get any feedback on my 1st post so I ordered a Xoar 18x10 prop for the DLE-30. I will post some pics of the plane once I start making some progress on the assembly. With any luck the following weekend I can get a flight or two in on it.

Later!!

I have the Extra assembled and ready for the maiden this weekend.

I wound up swapping out the 6v 2000 Mah (AA) pack for a larger 3200 Mah Sub C pack. Even with everything up against the firewall it was a bit tail heavy. The Sub C pack put the balance right on the mark.

Here are a couple pics, I think my grandson will like it.

Our field finally dried out after 2 weeks of heavy rains and we had some decent flying weather today.

The Extra fly's great. The recommended throws were too sensitive for my taste and I toned them down after the 1st flight. The plane has excellent vertical performance and is a joy to fly. The plane also has good slow speed and landing characteristics. I am sure the grandson is going to love the plane. He will be back from vacation next weekend. I will shoot some video of him flying the plane and will post it when available.

Well it took a while to get video,
My grandson now has 8 flights on his Extra. He is still getting comfortable with the plane. I uploaded a video to youtube. It was a bit tough keeping the plane in the frame. Also my grandson like to fly with a lot of throttle. I missed the landing as he was getting nervous due to the wind direction and the approach.

Nice flying, and even more so when taking into account it's being flown by a 7 year old kid! I was also impressed that while there were a few rolls in there, that he didn't get transfixed on them like a kid at our club does, and to me that shows a good teacher, and a respectful student that listens and pays attention!

That is still one seriously nice looking plane though!
