Default H9 80" cap232 and ZDZ40 info needed

I currently have a H9 cap232 80" which by the way is a really nice looking plane but I can get my hands on a zdz40 for trade with some ducted fan stuff so I am wondering if that engine is good enough for this plane to do hovers, harriers, flat spins, waterfalls etc... and normal IMACC stuff.

I am new to this gas engine stuff so I am not sure how power full this ZDZ40 will be for this plane.

Let me know

Enjoy!

the old smaller one was great with the 40 and I am sure yours is flying nicely with the 52 -the problem is LOW speed performance --it falleth

sparkplug,

It needs to be at least a rotory valve model. There are 4 of these Caps flying here with a ZDZ50NG (mine), older ZDZ50 (1300 rpm lower than the NG), ZDZ40RV and a Zenoah G42. The lowest performer is the G42 and the highest performer is the ZDZ50NG. The 40RV flyies very nicely.

I have one flying with a BME 44. It flies great and will hover but I would like to have more power to pull out of the hover with. The ZDZ 40 will work but it would be better to have a 50 or so.......... Mine is between 15 and 16 pounds.

Do a searh for Fishgod, he had this same setup. He liked it at first, but later decided it did not have enough power to do hovering and some IMAC stuff.

I switched the ZDZ50 in my friend's plane -to my new ZDZNG and the performance increase was dramatic .
The big problem with the earlier ZDZ50 is not the engine as much as the muffler used.
The std Bisson used on a number of these - is quiet but is also restrictive - try th same muffler -on a DA 50 and it reduces power .
A goodZDZ 40 on a good open muffler or tuned setup will pull it just fine.

If using the non NG model 50 - get a open flow muffler or cut tips from the Bisson.
So far -we have seen nothing in the 50 size engine that compares with this new NG - on a free flowing muffler - keep it a bit rich in mid range (high speeed needle) -so that it can fully unload at WOT.
As for the CAP-- some were simply heavy in the rear end -- If you can balance the model without ballast - it will be about 16 lbs . If you are really careful and luck to have a light wood model -you may see mid 15 lbs.
The model does fly very well and is a real beauty.
It is simply dicey when power is pulled way back and you are doing low speed high angle of attack stuff.

The engine is the zdz 40 RV-L so I presume it's the better one. He said it was purchased about 8 months ago.

Dick Hanson:
When you say open muffler do you have any models in mind that would work with the ZDZ40. I hear people talk about the canister mufflers but how would they fit on the plane compared to the bisson for instance ?

Well so far the response is do the 50cc engine versus the 40cc.

I seen several ZDZ 60 to much over kill and I seen a ZDZ 40 plenty, so I ordered the plane and put my ZDZ-40 perfict. it depend on the person.I know this guy tell every body evey thing. but yet to put one back on three weels.
I made a good linkage to my choke very easy.
