Whenever I see that 70% I think of the receiver that must be fitted in it. Even with dual redundant receivers, I bet it's possible to forget where you fitted it in the fuse and lose it!

It somehow doesn't seem right that a plane that size should rely on a tiny little receiver to come between it and destruction.

-David C.
Don't tell the receiver that its a bg airplane and it won't know it.

If the receiver does only its job and not power the servos, it has no problem no matter how big the airplane is.

Third...The guy runs a business that builds composite parts for AC.. I bet he knows what it cost...

I rest my case, when his business is paying for it. He has to pay the people.

You seem to be missing something, the guy know's what he is doing and that is a sure thing, what I said it did not cost $50,000.00 in material.

I built a full size homebuilt and it has to be inspected, so you don't buy scrap parts. My homebuilt at that time (1986) cost me about $10,000.00 in material, but since it was plans built, and I put in about 4000 hours in 5 years , put that at $25.00/hour and I come up with another $100,000.00 of time alone.

No it didn't cost $50,000.00 of material, in time probably...

Hello Roger

My name is Bob Sawyer. It seams you are more of an expert on what it took and cost to develop my project than me. You state that you can purchase the power plant I purchased for 4000.00 dollars. When in fact the purchase price was nearly 7000.00 dollars not including the custom motor mount, custom exhaust, inverted oil system, redundant voltage regulation systems, RF filtration systems, propeller and spinner. additionally the CV carbs will not work inverted ,so now special pumper carbs had to be purchased and modified, the power plant cost rose to over 12000.00 alone. You also stated that the Seiko servos were only a 189.00 each. This is correct which I used only 3 of, 2 elevator, 1 throttle and 3 ea. 26 lb of torque Seikos that were over 500.00 each not including the additional hardware that had to be designed and manufactured to meet my requirements. By the way, their was nearly 25000.00 dollars in High Temp composite tooling to manufacture High Temp Pre Preg wings, engine cowl, turtle deck, forward deck and wheel pants. There is so many other details and associated costs with the rest of this project that I will not waste my time explaining to somebody that sits on the side lines while doing nothing new and take a cheap shot by basically calling me a lier when I have told all these folks what I have spent on this project. What do I have to gain by misleading these people. I am not trying to sell the aircraft or tooling or attract venture capital.[>:]

Bob

P.S. Before I became Owner And CEO of Fiber Art Inc. I was a Pro Builder in the home built realm, so I am not clueless in this area. I will say this I don`t know what kind of home built you may have built, but by 1986 standards as well as 2004 you could then and now spend 25000.00 + easily on the instrument panel forward!!! Do you Roger "get the picture".

Wow, see I knew that plane had to cost some big bucks! Hey Bob, have you flown it yet or plan to take it to the desert and test it out?

Hello Guys

I have not done much of anything with the Staudacher from the time I finished it. I`m in the aviation business and the 911 disaster almost put me out of business, so all my efforts have been spent keeping the doors open. It was very difficult to operate in the red with 30 employees for over 20 months. Things are finally starting to turn around and I hope to get the first flight off soon. I will post a video of the results good or bad.

Sincerely Bob Sawyer

P.S. later today I will try to post some never before seen pictures of the engine installation.

Ditto. And don't let those with negative attitudes or lack of info spoil your fun.! Its a great project worthy of whatever time, effort, and monetary funds you are willing to throw at it. Even if you don't ever fly it, it can be a great advertising prop for your business. If you do, I'll bet you'll get a major kick out of!!! I know I would.

So yes, keep us informed, and of course please post any photos or video if you see fit.

"Honest dear, its not really any bigger than my other airplanes! It doesn't cost any more, nor would I need a new trailer for it either. And look on the bright side, I can take the kids up for rides when their bored!!"

Great pics , alot of fabrication went into that plane , that is the best conversation piece i have ever seen , i would love to have that hanging from my living room ceiling . Well maybe i could expand the living room and make it fit. HA HA.

Heck i would just like to see the plane in real person. Great job man thanks for the pics !!!!

Hello Guys

I do have a place lined up to fly it, 4 sq. miles of table top with two runways, near home and I do not intend on selling plans or kits.

Thanks for the post Bob. Funny when people have to eat their words. Well, some people have negative thoughts sometimes, I guess. I never doubted that you could easily have spent 50 in materials. That's almost like scratch building a real 100%. Except the parts aren't readily available. Everything has to be "engineered". And that's never cheap. I can't see what the big deal is over ya flyin it either. Well hope it fly's good when ya get it in the air. I'm sure it will as you have obviously put alot of time and thought into your project. Good luck. Chris

That's the baddest model airplane I've ever seen! If you can call it that!

I bet the Discovery Wings channel would do a feature on this if they knew about it. Would probably put those itty bitty in car cameras in it so when you fly you would get in the cockpit video etc.

I think that it is great if I could see it in the air, I think it is a great thing but it is not half as good if it would be if it would fly.
