Capt,

The 3w-48 is a very smooth engine. I had this engine on my H9-Cap for awhile and the plane had excellent unlimited vertical. I have not fired it up on the Katana yet because we still have winter here in NY. It will be a couple of months before the maiden flight.

Thanks for the comments. The scheme was pretty simple actually but it did take a while cutting out all of those little squares!
Sorry I haven't gotten back to you guys about the colors , I had to look up the covering numbers since I threw away the wrappers.

The covering is Ultracote & the Blue is Corsair blue part # HANU905. The Yellow is Bright Yellow (same as the Funtana 90) part # HANU872. Not that anyone asked but the white is Pure White Ultracote. I didn't look up the number since no one asked about that one. The colors match the covering on the plane perfectly but there is a (almost unoticeable) difference between the covering & the blue paint on the cowl. If you own one of these then you know that the paint on the cowl is slightly different then the covering as well, so I guess that is no suprise.

Cobia, the stripes on the wing just peel right off. I slipped a fingernail under the edge & just lifted them off.

The first one I did was a copy of my avatar, which is actually a 40% Carden Edge built & flown by a very talented pilot, Scott Russell. I changed the design colors slightly & the bottom of mine was completely different but I still give him credit for the design. That plane was totaled while practicing for an airshow I was supposed to perform in & it really got to me which is probably why it took so long to finish this one. This design is all original. The first one took over 80 hours in covering & finishing (sanding) & I just didn't have the heart to duplicate it. Besides, I would hate to show up at the Nall or someplace similar & have the same plane as someone else.

If you guys are interested in doing something similar & you are somewhat design challenged you might check the Carden Aircraft website. There are hundreds of photos of planes there & you can get some good ideas for your own plane.

Seems to be having some sort of a battery issue. In an attempt to reduce the weight I took the redundant battery system out of the plane & next time I flew it she went into battery failsafe. I got her down to the ground but won't fly her again until I have time to sort it all out. While flying around I lost all throttle control until I pulled throttle back to idle, then it would come back for a few seconds then I would lose it again. I got her down but took the landing gear out in the landing. Considering I had no real control I consider myself very lucky. I seem to be jinxed when it comes to this plane but never fear, I will sort it out.

What is the CG for this plane? I got it from a friend and don't have one. The wing tips are marked at 4.5". But it is extremely nose heavy there. I have a Peak 65 on the business end.

I haven't flown it with a 46, but I can tell you it will barely fly with that engine. Your plane will be at least 17 lbs when finished. Nothing less than a 50cc I'd say.

I added a new DLE55 - hitec 7955s all around, and a power regulator system managing two batteries to name a few. It flies great and is fun. Maiden was two clicks of elevator.. and smooth through the skies.
