Default CA 27% extra 300L Weight with DA50???

I am almost done building my CA27% extra 300L. I am using a DA50 for power. I weighed the plane yesterday and its tipping the scale at around 15.4 lbs dry. This is without the fuselage covered as yet. I think once I am ready to go, the dry weight may be around 16lbs. I am using 2 1600 ma nimh rx batteries, and 1 1400 ma nicd ign battery. All servos are top end JR digitals (read 8411). Am I still good for 3d flight? I was always aiming for 14lbs dry. Its surprising as this is the weight with graphtech CF main and tail gears. Let me tell you, those are NOT LIGHT. I guess same weight as the stock aluminium gears, only taller. What weight did others end up with a similar setup? Will the DA 50 propel 16lbs plane out of a hover fast enough? ALso whats the best prop size for this setup. I have a 22x10 menz and a 24x8 menz.

Well, i think the nicd battery isnt helping. Mine is 14.5 lbs with a ZDZ 50 and a smoke system. I have nimh batteries and all 8411s. I did lighten the tail a bit by drilling lightening holes in the control surfaces. You may want to go to only one receiver pack. I run one 2700 mah nimh, and it works just fine.

WOWSWER!! Ragz,
I really don't know what is going on here! We built one of this, (over a year ago), and the All-Up-Weight, RTF Dry with a ZDZ-50, and JR-8411's all around was 13.5 lbs!
I don't remeber doing anything to the kit other than building it. As you are well aware the instructions sucked, so we just opened the box and built the plane the way it appeared to go together. It was, (I only say was because we sold it, it is still flying), a teriffic flyer, extremely stable in high alpha, and unlimited vertical with the little ZDZ.
We used all the "stock" components, i.e. Landing Gear, Wing tube, etc.
Here she is when we owned it:

Spuck, Thats exactly what I did. Just built the thing with CA glue all around except firewall etc. No extra wood used anywhere else. I hope my scale is messed up. I will weigh it again on a different scale now.

Just finishing mine with a DA 50 can't see it being 15 lbs. The framed fuse is very light. I used the da standoffs and shortened the engine box.

I am using stock purple stand offs. I guess they are about 3 inch length. The fuse seems light, but mine is surely 15lbs when fitted with all hardware etc.

how much throw are you guys getting on the elevator. I have moved the elevator servos downwards in order to accomodate the arms vertically upwards. I am using 1 inch arms and this is not giving me more than 30-35 degrees max. I cant use longer arms as they will touch the stab. If I use the arms vertically downwards, it will come in the path of the pull pull wire. Any suggestions?

Mine CA Models Extra is right at 15lbs 7oz at the moment with DA-50. Im running one 2700mAh receiver battery, cf spinner, prop, landing gears and a wing tube, and a KS 86 V-4 canister.

With a standard muffler I think it would be something around 15lbs even, but not under it.
And it just came up to that weight and no way could have 14lbs been possible without taking
great actions to lighten the airframe as it has nothing extra at the moment (except the canister).

But it sure has enough power at 15lbs 7oz though, but a light airframe is always a light airframe.

Mine is 14.5 Lbs with CF wing tube and landing gear, DA 50 with standard muffler, and 3 1400 mah packs. Wing area if I did it right was a little bit under 1200 Sq-in.
The CF landing gear (graphtech) weighs around 3.5 Oz more than the standard one which sucks by the way, and won´t have enough prop clearance.
I use the standard DA stands off which I think are around 2-1/4 inches. I did shorten the engine box to use them.

Yes, it does very well at 14.5lbs.

My setup is tauruus 52, 5955 on Rudder, 5945s on the rest. Two NoBS 6V NIMH packs for receiver and a 1950 4.8V pack on the ignition.

Is that a 20x8 prop on the DA? If so, it is too small. 22x8 for break in and 23x8 after that. I am currently running 23A Vess prop.

No. That's a Venom 45cc and yes the 20-8 is too small. I've got a 22-8 and a 21-8 on the way.

Cool. I'll be posting numbers for the Mejzlik 20-8, 21-8, 22-8, 22-10, and a 3 blade 21-10.5N. Right now I've only got a tank thru it. But sat., weather permitting, I'll be flying it.
