First 40% Flight!
I got my 40% Aeroworks Edge 540 flying yesturday and had it flying again today. The Edge flies great and is lots of fun to fly. Its my biggest airplane and most powerful. Unlimited vertical! Hovers easy at low throttle. I just have to get used to the throttle since it isn't like a glow engine for throttle speed. My Stinger is like that with a G-62. I like how easy the DA starts up. I have my DA 50 in my DP Extra to soon break-in, in about a week.
It has:
40% Areoworks Edge 540
DA 150
Mejlick 32x10 prop
Tru-Turn spinner
smoke system
6 Hitec 5945 Digitals (2 on each aileron and one of each elevator
2 Hitec 805BBs on the rudder (340 oz each)
2 8 channel PCM Futaba Recievers
2 5x2600nimh for recievers and 5x2700nimh for ignition.
9CAP Futaba Radio
I can't wait to fly it again. I have 7 flights so far and liked every second of it so far. I won't get to fly it until the weekend again. []

RE: First 40% Flight!
He is probably ok with that. An extra with 2 JR 8411's only has 60 oz more tq. and its tail is about 8" wider (might be 10", I can't remember).
Plus he is he is saving 1/2 pound of weight by using 4 less servos (3 per wing) and there is no chance of having them fight each other which would result in less tq being applied to the control surface if they weren't perfectly matched.
My $.02

Yeh but the thought of two 8411's per elevator is more in my perspective also JohnVH, If one breaks etc, you still have no troubles landing safely, if on of those 5945's go bad you will have a handful. But that is a beautiful bird RyanNau, I hope maybe, maybe, I can bring one back from Joe Nall next week

RE: First 40% Flight!
Your right. I was thinking about 4.8v rating.
I'm with you, I know I always overpower everything.
I have 2 8611's on each elevator and 3 8611's on each aileron and rudder. I was also one of the first people I knew using them so I didn't want to take any chances if they didn't put out what they said they did. My reasoning was that they cost the same as an 8411 and I was still saving $100 by only using 3 on the rudder.
Maybe the gears will last longer since they are sharing more load.

Holy moly JB, 2 x 8611 per elevator and 3 x 8611 per aileron. You could have saved $500 and not only $100 by running one less per surface, and you would still be fine he he. Wht don't you just take those 4 x 8611 off your plane and send to me as payment for making your plane lighter *G*.

RE: First 40% Flight!
I've flown both routes, single and dual servos per half. After 300 flights on the Carden 40% Extra 330s, and 250 flights on the 40% Giles, I don't think I'd put dual servos per elevator half any more. I haven't noticed any difference between the two setups, and the single setup is just as reliable and much lighter (less 2 servos, smaller batteries). I'd just use a single 8611 per elevator half, and 2 8611's per aileron, all with 6v packs.

RE: First 40% Flight!
Thanks for all the replies. I think that one 5945 is enough for each elevator half, it seems to be. It flies all it manuevers and 3D easily.
What do you guys use for smoke fluid? I might play around with the smoke system this weekend when I get to fly it again.
I have to get a trailer next It just fits in the back of the truck bed with the back down. The tailwheel sits on the edge and the tail hangs out. I have a cap on top, so i just tie it on to that so it won't slide around and the carden wing bags help alot. A trailer will work a lot better when I get one but for now this works ok.
Thanks
Ryan

RE: First 40% Flight!
Cool, Im really enjoying mine. I have over 100 flights on mine and like to fly it very much. It flies really smooth and 3D's good. Im flying it in IMAC next week. Been practicing with it for a while. I have the same servos u have and just one on each elevator half, and 2 on each wing.

RE: First 40% Flight!
A large counter balance helps out the load of the servos alot also. So if an elivator does not have a counter balance or a really small one, then I would go with 2 servos. But if it has a large counter balance, then it may not need both of the servo's.

Im not saying that 2 is better then 4 serves on the elv , i am just saying that it will work. I have never flu a plane with 4 servos on the elv, so i realy dont no the differnce in the way the two setups fly.

Have any of you guys thought of using Boost Tabs on the control surfaces? I have been using these for over 3 years and using less servos with lots of power.
