Good place to buy G-62 parts
Have been out of flying status for a few years and am recomissioning a big Hotts with a G-62. May be able to make a tape of how i convince a G-62 into running.

Is a stock engine. With the prop aligned to start the compression stroke at 11:00/11:30 I am able to slide a gloved rt hand down the blade and avoid the impact to my fingers one would suffer with a rt to lt swat. Seems to whip the prop more than would a 1:00 position. Pull the plug lead, add a second plug and practice with the second plug gap visible.

What you need to do is to forget the idea of a spring starter and purchase a "Jump Start" for the G-62 - made by C&H Ignition. You can get one from Reid's Quality Model Products. See their ad in Model Aviation. I own five G-62's, and each one is equipped with a jump start. Just choke the engine until wet - turn on the start switch, and flip the prop by hand. The engine will almost always start on the first flip. I always use a chicken stick to start my big engines - although there is no kickback with the jump start system. It costs about $60.00.
If you still want a spring starter - I will sell you one for $25.00 plus $5.00 shipping. But the Jump start is a better way to go.

guy's I have been starting my g-62 for almost a year now by hand with only one kickback, learned real quick not to flip slowly.
make sure prop is aligned with slots in prop hub, choke on flip thru compression starting @ about 45 degrees before compression, flip quickly, 3 or 4 flips engine pops, take choke off, flip same way 2 or 3 more flips, engine starts. Make sure throttle is about half when choked & less than a quarter when not choked
my engine is a very easy starter, don't even use a glove

In my opinion, what you have just described above is very very risky, and sooner or later you are going to get bit. You have been extremely lucky so far - the next guy won't be as lucky. If you are going to start your engine in this manner, then please consider using a chicken stick. To all others - don't even consider starting your G-62 this way unless you place no value on your fingers! Consider yourself warned.

I should use a chicken stick, as a matter of fact I hace one in my box. The point I was trying to get across is the zenoah engines once properly tuned are very easy to start. I had a spring starter on mine & in the process of winding it to the right, the prop slipped out of my hand & the prop came around & nailed me pretty good. I'm sorry if I led anyone to believe it was a good thing to hand start this engine because it is very dangerous. a chicken stick would be the right thing to do. In my opinion the spring starter is not worth the extra weight or the maintenance hassel that is involved with having one. But opinions are like #$%holes every one has one!!!!

I have to agree with Jim. The CH Electronics Jumpstart beats hand starting and a spring starter. It's a great value for the money. Here is a photo of one installed on a G62.
