Hey,
I hope it all went Okay. Hate to hear about the range problems. Are you using matchboxes? Hope you get it figured out. Hope it flew well too, I'll check back later. Seems Like mine is still light years away from being ready [:@]

Well, Sunday wasn't a good day either. Range check was alright, but with engine running, range check was very poor. It was the Rx that the throttle servo plugs into, that did the dancing, aileron and elevator would be, at the least, lively. My throttle servo is mounted like Darcy has his mounted, just on the inside of the firewall. I took the servo off the firewall yesterday afternoon.evening and mounted it on the side of the fuse back where the rear retaining bolts come through the fuse. Then, when I hooked up the throttle servo and turned the Rx on, to mount the horn in the right position and to check direction of servo travel, the servo moved back and forth on its own, but it had just worked fine, weird. I put another servo in its place, and just need to make and connect the linkage to the carburetor, then I'll be ready to try again next weekend.
I may not have flown the plane this weekend but I also did not lose it.
By the way, on the photo above, do you guys notice my t-shirt, oh yeah baby, am I ever a Patriot ha ha.

Patriotic???!!!

I dont think so.

Probably got that color scheme because it makes for a better re-sale value!!!

Jens, you know I am just kidding!!!!

Guys, this is one beautiful plane. Looking forward to see Jens fly it this coming Saturday.
We will clear the field for him, and I will charge admission tickets!!!

DK,
I am using a fiber optic exension on the throttle servo. From www.aerografixs.com All the guys around here use them and they work fine. What servo are u using on the throttle? I've got a Futaba 9602 High speed quality servo. $60 bucks but why skimp here? BTW it looks AWSOME!!!! I screwed up my canopy so I had to buy a new one... [&o]

Aha, Mad Mat, what a bloody fitting name for a bloody abusive mate[>:][:-] This is the only kind of humor Mat understands, and it's still on the very mushy soft side for him. I can't really post here how to really get to him, that would be cruel and much to Australian ha ha.

About the quote, well, I wish I could say that about my girlfriend(s), but it's really hard when one is married

Do you think you can make it up here to civilization next weekend, or are do those barbarians keep you tied to your desk/lab?

RickP,
I was using a Futaba 9202 servo, and it apparently had a mind of its own. I now put a 9201 in it and will se how that goes.

Hey Jens, you should read the article by Mike Hurley in the newest issue of Model Aviation (Sept?) in the Scale Aerobatics section. He talks about his setup on his 40% Carden Extra 330.
Only one receiver, two Nimh batteries, and 10 servos. No dual Rx, no Lithiums, no regulators, seemes like he's going back to KISS. There is a certain amount of interaction between two receivers so, of course, you'll have to decide on what you want to do. Just some food for thought.
Hope all goes well on Sat

Airbike,
Somebody else told me to just use one Rx, that they really can take more than we think we put through them. I will try my new set-up on Saturday, if I don't get a satisfying range check, I will try just one Rx. If one Rx works great, I will probably put my spcm Rx in then.

Hey lol, actually I was on vacation for 2 weeks. Just got back last saturday. Went to fly this weekend and my Li Poly in the topcap has dropped 2V[]. Something went wrong somewhere. So I have to take the plane apart to get to the battery and send it back and wait for a new one.

I got to fly it on the second flight, can you say rolling harriors.....

I'll let Jens tell you all what he thinks of his new baby..

Yep, it flew, and it flyes bloody great. I changed location of my thhrottle servo, and in the process found the 9202 to act weird, so I changed to a different servo. I also changed from 2 ppm receivers to 1 JR649S pcm receiver. Everything checked out very well, good range check engine off and on. When two guys pick the plane up by the wingtips, it seems like CG is right at the rear wing tube perimeter, which should correspond to 1" behind the spar, since the wingtube is about 2" thick. The engine (DA150) runs fantastic. Out of the box, I found the low needle to be a little lean; when starting the engine, one would have to let it idle for a while before it would take the throttle, just a tad lean for a new engine and for my taste. I turned the low needle out 1/8-1/4 turn and it takes the gas better. However, taxiing out it loads up and needs a few seconds to clear out before full clean rpm is reached, but that's just after idling for over 1 minute, so shouldn't be a factor in the air.

Takee off, and the whole day, was effortless, it needed a couple of clicks of down elevator and aileron. It flyes very very well, and Darcy's exact words were: "If my Super Extra flyes this nice, I'll be vary happy", and the SE is supposed to fly better, no? It flyes hands off upright and inverted, which really surprised us all. But it doesn't act tail heavy, like pitching up at very slow speed or at landings. We dialed some Rud to Elev for knife edge, some aileron differential, and adjusted my low rates for better snaps (less rudder). I just some basic flying around, loops, rolls, snaps, stall turns, quite a bit of knife edge, and I did go up and did one set of water falls. It water falls very well, no tendency to get on its side and very willingly noses over. I didn't do any upright or inverted flat spins, better take it easy the first day out. It just floats in for landings, but don't let it flooat for to long, you run out of runway fast with this big plane. It looks absolutely gorgeous in the air as well as on the ground, I am a very happy owner and flyer.

Many thanks to my sponsors ha ha, I wish, but many thanks to Andreas and Bobby at Compositte-ARF for making this possible, many thanks to Dave Johnson at Desert Aircraft for his/their outstanding help, support, service and 1st class engines and products, many thanks to Kurt Cook at Fromeco.com for his great Lithium-Ion batteries, Super Relia Switches and absolutely great charger.

By the way, Darcy shot some video oof the third flight, hopefully it will be posted soon, thanks Darcy, you made me feel like a real pro yesterday, with all your help and assistance.
