Default Aeroworks 33% ULTIMATE

Hello Everyone.... I have been looking at the Aeroworks new 33% Ultimate and would put a DA100 in it, HOWEVER there have been sooooo many negitive reports on all of the issues with nearly ALL of the new Aeroworks Arfs, (plus i've seen first hand with 2 friends at the field the low quality of 2 of them) I'm a little scared to invest in ANY Aeroworks new planes without it being proven..... I was one of the unfortunate ones who tried the new 31% edge when it first came out and it left a really bad taste in my mouth (as well as my pocket book ) Has ANYONE actually bought this plane yet and put it together? I know when it is done it flys great, Chip Hyde was in town last weekend and put on a great show with it, however we all arent Chip Hydes..... My main concern is that it will go together smoothly without spending months making modifications.... Thank you for your time.... Goldie in Denver

I've been in the hobby for four years and this weekend I had one of the best flying experiences and it was with the Ultimate 33%. I is my first bipe and 33%. Mostly flew my DP Extra. The design and build is excellent. Covering from a scale of 1-10 its an 8. The reason I got the AW 33% Ultimate was because of size (smallest in it's class), AW reputation for great flying planes and price. If your covering skill is good get the ARC. What other Ultimates have you considered?

Hey Goldie,
I was looking at the BME Ultimate. It has a good size and price to it. I have heard from a few people that the covering on it wasn't monokote or ultrakote and that you could see throught it. It was really transparent on thier Challenger. BUMMER[]

As for the Aeroworks, I have heard and seen the same things about fit and finish. That's a bummer too[] I would love to have either one of these planes, but I am a little hessitant to buy either one.

Maybe some day someone will get it right!

I fly the Areoworks edge33% Flys awesome, floats on idle, no tip stalling. I purchased the 33% ultimate /DA 100 and I know that it will fly with the same quality. I did have to do a little extra stuff to it, my wing pins were a little off. I repositioned them and the covering I had to tighten up. I will be flying it this weeked and am confident that it will be everything that I expected out of this great flying machine. [sm=thumbup.gif]

I'm building one I have a few questions-

Where are you mounting the tail servos, I'm putting a DA100 up front.
Where should I mount my smoke tank?

Fury.... I wound up getting one also... Not as far along putting it together as I would of liked by now (darn life keeps getting in the way ) )... I put my rudder servos in the rear servo holes as per instructions.... As for the smoke, wait until you've had your first trim flight, then if your tail heavy put it as far up front as possible and of course if nose heavy put it as far back.... keep me up to date on how your doing... so far I havent found and "real" issues.

I'm in to doing things once, I don't touch and plane once everything is installed. Most of the time I fly with smoke on. I think I'm going to locate the tank right behind the main, I just have to see if it's going to cause a CG shift. I'll post some pictures soon.

I'm building one as well...DA100 combo (An Arc version....would just prefer my own color scheme)

I too am about to install the rudder servos and wasn't sure where the best place is. (tail or fuse) I'd be curious to hear where others have mounted them as well.

I put 2 8611s in the tail and put 2200 nicd batteries in the motor box. I've been flying it since May and have about 8 gallons through it. You will be very happy with the end result.

Here are some pictures.

I think it might be a little over kill to have two 8611s on the rudder, but originally I was going to use two in the fuse. I'm glad I went with mounting them on the tail.

Looks good fly3dnyc!

One more question...With the setup you have now, where is the CG?

Thanks

fly3dnyc,

I'm about to install the radio gear on a 27% Ultimate and wonder how you have your aileron servos hooked up. Did you just use wyes to connect the upper and lower ailerons to the radio? Or did you use match boxes or something similar? I have never put together a 4 wing-servo bipe before and I'm not sure which is the best way to go. Thanks for the help.

Use two y's . Connect the right upper to the rt. lower, doing the same on the left. Mix in the radio. After that any mixing in the radio is a snap.Dennis

Thanks guys.

Balanced right on the wing tube. I might go a little aft with the batteries for 3D.

I'm using the Hitech 5945 with Ys and used the programer to adjust and set F/S.

Here a few more pictures including one of my 27%

I ran it without the baffles first and the engine ran great. I had the lite ply so in a couple of evenings put it in. Still runs great and makes it a bit neater. Wet the ply, bend to shape and put tape on it to hold its shape. Next day I did fitting and cutting and glued it in with 5 minute epoxy to hold it in place and 30 minute epoxy to fill in and set it in place. I think it added maybe a couple of oz. Thats why I think I need to move the batteries back a bit.

Also, the cut out for the exit is a bit to large. If I had to do it again I would have cut less out of the bottom.

Here is the picture of the inside of the cowl.

Good luck.

Well I have the firewall built-

For those of you using a DA-100 did you beef up the firewall?

I started to install the control horns and found that I had to install a dowel, do to the fact the that wood that was used was to soft and I ended up crushing it.

The top wings do not go together easy, one pin is off every so slightly and it's making it difficult to slid them together. Any one else with that problem?

What size servo arms are you guy's using for all the surfaces?

Used fiberglass on the outer corners of the firewall . Two layers. Don't remember the thickness of the fiberglass.

They do have the hard point for the control horn, but it is behind the servo not offset to one side. Picture illustrates my instillation.

I took one of the pins out of the wing, adjusted it and glued it back in. Works great now.

I think that out of everything the control horn and the wing pins were the two problems I had, but were fixed easily.

Hitec 5945 Ali. and elev.
JR 8611 (2) for the rudder. I could have probably done it with one because I mounted the servos in the tail.
6 volt battery with battery backer

Hi Kelly, I just have to correct you about BME 37% Ultimate. The covering on this Ultimate is genuine Monokote. The Challenger may had slightly transparent covering before, but now it's all been corrected.
So they're all good now. Thanks,

hey areomax, The first ad I saw said monokote, Then I heard alot of guy talking about the covering. So I went back threw the ads and the web site, Well I couldn't find monokote anywhere. well now the ads and website says monokote on the Ultimate. Believe me I have been keeping an eye on this plane for a while. I was a little disappionted when I thought it wasn't covered with monokote. Now maybe I will put it back on my wish list.
