Top Flite P-51
Have built and test flown the TF P-51. It weighs 23 lbs(glassed)and has a us 41 engine. The plane flys well but is vertically challenged. Can't replace the engine right now due to budget constraints so was wondering what the best prop to use to get the most out of this engine/plane combination. Currently using zinger 18 -10. Was wondering if the top flite power point would be better at 18-10 or 18-8, or any other suggestions? Help! Attached a picture of this solid, but not very nimble airplane.

your headed in the right direction , but I would concider some of the mixed pitch props from zinger ie. 18/6-10, 18/8-12, 20/6-10 all trying to get groung rpm's around 6800 to 7200 beg, borrow till you find that rpm range and pull /performance try bolly mejezik also but i would rpm check before settleing in on those since they are about double the cost of zingers but they do perform you are on the upper range of weight for that usa41/quadra42

I'm powering mine with a Sachs 2.6 which is pretty close to the same size as the US41. I've tried 18x10, 20x8, 20x10, Zinger, Dynathrust, Clarke and Cyclone. The Zinger 20x10 gave the best static thrust on my fish scale and the best inflight performance although I did get higher rpm on the 20x8 and almost as good performance. Mine iweights in at 20 lbs dry and the performance is just OK from a scale point of view, so I expect at 23 lbs you're underpowered all right.

I'm flying the TF giant Corsair with the US 41, modified slightly, with the powerpoint 18/12. I've gotten good runs with the 20/10 on the bench, but have yet to try any other prop on the corsair.
I'll tell you, I'd not put another engine in this airplane, and I don't think the P-51 will give you any more thrill with a lot more muscle. I'm guessing that the engine is running bench+2,000 in the air, and that ought to leave plenty of room to move to a 20/10 or even a 22/8 (Got runway?!)
Both these props will improve vert performance over the 18/10 with the US 41. I also added a wa144 carb and bennett exhaust to the engine.
I'm eager to hear how she does, as the TF kits are a gas and the P-51 is the next gleam in my eye!
