Default 8611's in Comp-arf 2.3, won't fit elev.

Has any body tried to put 8611's in the 2.3 extra elevators, the cut out will fit the 8411 and not the 8611. what have some of you done to make them fit? there is not much room.

Hi Rick! I just put mine together. I had to take a dremel to the wood around the opening of the elevator halves where the servo needs to go through. I did not have to open up the actual servo mount. It was just right but the 8611 has to be coaxed, into place !~)
I love the way this plane flys and the servos are part of that I am sure!

The elevators are a tight fit, but theres enough room to get them in there...the servos just bareley fit..

Hey guy's on mine the cut out for the servo down inside is too small for the 8611, the 8411 will fit with no room to spare, the wood is really thin on the top and bottom looking inside, this would be on the sides of the cut out, if I dremel this I would have no wood next to the skin of the plane. the only support for the servo would be the screw mounts at each end. looks like 8411's for the elev.

also: JohnVH when I get it done I will be sure to come up and let you fly it.
coming to the Olympia IMAC? Sept. 25-26

interesting....didn't think of this until I saw your post....I bought the 8611"s based on a reccommendation of a friend, for my 2.3......

I didn't think they would fit but can, but not exactly.........

The overall center distance between the mounting holes is larger because the servo is larger.....

the 8411 measures .75 X 1.34 X 1.36

the 8611 measures .82 X 1.58 X 1.56

I opened up the mount on the width, and there wasn't too much needed on the length. It gets close to the skin, but there is more than the thickness than a typical cap strip with the epoxy glue so I don't think it really matters

I do need to add holes for the servo leads to come back.

FYI the servo mounts for the wings have the same center distance problem, and so do the "plastic" mounts from horizon hobbies.....They all can work, just a minor adjustment for have the laterst and greatest

Thanks for the replies everyone, but I don't like the idea of only having maybe 1/16th of an inch or less of wood on the rib between the skin. I have ordered some 8411's to put in the elev. and the rest of the plane will get 8611's.
has anybody had a loose fitting carbon stab tube from Desert Aircraft, mine fits loose and probably will need the tape trick to get it tight. Rick.

I'll go to Olympia too, Rick! Hope to see your plane in action there.

I dont know why your having such a hard time fitting the 8611's in the stab. I had to sand down mine also but they are in there.

I got my C/F stab tube from troybuilt and its tight as you know what
