I just made the move up to a 42% von extra 260. In the process of buying it right now.
I can't wait to start practicing for next years IMAC season with it.

By the way I have a good Hangar 9 1/3 scale cap for sale.

I have to go pick the plane up from Mn in a couple of weeks, I can't wait!

Monday late night, just finished uncrating my beautiful 42%.
I am missing a few things to get it flying, but I will take care of those soon.
I will post better pics ASAP (I have not seen it assembled yet; I hope tomorrow).

I also still do custom covering and painting as well as carbon fiber cannisters. I will have a 260 with the new foam core wings at the Don Lowe Masters and the Tucson Shootout. I am working on one for a friend that has the built up wings. You guys did an amazing job. Are you willing to share how you did such a neat job putting the sheeting together? The wings dont really need to be touched with sandpaper.

I was always pushing Gene to come out with a Kit. It is such a shame he didn't I would love to build one from a kit.

YES I built all the planes with frame up wing ,yep they take a lots of time , this is why this plane was expensive

I don't know how your post was deleted, but I read it earlier today.
As mentioned in my older post, my plane is one of the last ones built by Gene. Tony (of daltonaviation.com) will now be building the 42%. So mine still has the built up wings, where as Tony will make foam/sheeted wings.

Tony will put out a kit also, but when I see all those sticks in the fuse, it does seem quite difficult to built the fuse straight, without the assembly jig to line everything up before gluing.

This plane is truly a work of art! Tony did a particularly great job on my canopy/hatch finish: I asked him to fiber-glass and paint it. This makes for a much cleaner finish, as opposed to covering the hatch prior to gluing the canopy.

I love the colors, but I have to admit that I did not conceive the color scheme: I copied it from John McNees' plane, and just slightly changed the colors. I also changed the bottom of the wings/stab because I don't like checkerboards; so the bottom was my design (no picture yet).

That plane looks great! I just prefer the brighter yellow.
This is the drawing I sent Tony for the bottom of the wings and stab, and it came out great; Still now pic, because I get home too late. Maybe this week-end.
In fact, I like the colors so much, I might not put any graphics on it.

Man Paul you're abusing those pic.s of my TB hehe....... It looks a lot better now though, worked on the covering quite a bit and wheelpants.

All I can say is that airplane is 2.5 years old and been put through HELL. Here's a SHORT list in no particular order.

1. I began and practiced 3D flying with this airplane including my first blenders (including taking a rudder servo arm out). 'Nuff said.
2. Engine coughed in a low hover, airplane came down tail first then left wingtip (mini cartwheel). Broke the pull-pull and cracked the sheeting around the fuse at the wingroot (pushed in).
3. Knocked the rudder against the ground again with a lean motor. Broke pull-pull.
4. Broke landing gear plate practicing harrier landings. Also went through 3 carbon landing gears (cheaply made Graphtecs).
5. Motor died in a tail-slide, couldn't stretch a turn back up wind and hit a tree with the left wingtip. Tree came back to the sheerwebs, replaced the ribs and cracked fuse sheeting.
6. Doing a slow crab pass, wind gust shoved it into ground, twisted the CF gear and broke it. Replaced only the gear.
7. Had a dust devil pick up a wing (not in a wingbag) and blow it about 20 feet vertically and 50 horizontally. No damage.
8. Dipped the tail in water many a time.
9. Latest "major" incident was shearing all 6 prop bolts in a hover about 1.5 feet. Came down and crinkled the rudder good and set down hard on the gear. Needed a new rudder (finally!) and broke the gear stress support on the left side.
10. 2.5 years of existing in a rather small workshop, and I've never had an incident of hangar rash (yet!).
11. Might as well add last weekend the canopy blew off and slightly cracked the fuse sheeting (knife edge pass).

After all this, it's still flying. In fact yesterday I put on a show for a local church's senior citizens at the WACO airfield. Been through 3 smoke pumps and 3 engines to.

Well this plane is realy easy to built with all the jigs and some experience

I spent the week-end doing little stuff on the plane:

. Removed a little rust (from shipping) on engine mounting bolts, and wanted to checkt loctite on them (which Tony had used).
. Made one little hole at bottom of cowl to adjust carburator screws without removing cowl.
. Installed rubber washers on on cowl screws to prevent scratches from vibration on beautiful paint.
. Raised and re-secured wheel pants with 2 extra 4-40 screws/blind nuts on each (we have a grass runway that is irregularly mown, so wheel pants tend to crack).

All in all, I am just keeping busy, because I ordered a 32x10 Mejzlik prop, and a 30x10 wood prop for brake-in, but got neither (Mejzlik on the way, other is back-ordered!).
I am also learning to program my 9Z radio (my previous radio is a Futaba 8 UAP).

Test flight coming soon, I hope.

I have a question on the servo's for the elivator for the 42%. Are people using a single servo for earch elivator half. I would think that it would be alot for a single 8411 to handle. I am thinking about using a single 8611 in each elivator half, since it is already set up for a single servo per half. The counter balances seem to be pretty large, so it think that it should be fine.
I just want to hear what everyone has done.

I am not an expert on this particular plane, since I have not flown mine yet. But I had thorough discussions with Gene, and I narrowed my choices to either 2 Hitech 5945 (150 oz/in)per side, or a more powerful servo; I chose to go with one Futaba 9152 per side (278oz/in).
I would think that one JR 8611 per side should work.

Yes , you can install one JR 8411 per elevator or 8611, the elevators have big air balance to help the servos and if you do 3D stuff
this's working perfect , a mean treat to fly slow with a lots of trust and you will love it .

note:
you know , if you fly slow ,you have less air going through your stabs, and you don't need a lots of power on it
now what kind of batteries are you using on yours planes ?

I use one 4400mah TBM Lithium Ion on each receiver (two receivers), and one mor 4400mah for the ignition.
