JR 8611 Servos-Opinions Please
Gents,
What is everyone's opinions of the JR 8611 Servos?
Where is a good place to purchase them?
With dual Aileron Servos setups, is a matchbox required? If so, how many are required?

RE: JR 8611 Servos-Opinions Please
H.O.R., I have a little over 7 hours airtime on 5 8611s and I can't believe how good it feels to have the kind of control that I have. Before these on another plane I was using 645s and 625s so the comparison is apples to bungholes. I have more put away and use them in my next project. I have heard the highend futaba digitals are very high quality too. Good luck.

Hi All,
If they will fit your application the Futaba 9152 is a tighter(less slop) servo than the 8611 and a little bit stronger too.. I use both but only use the 8611 in places that the 9152 won't fit (Comp-arf elevators...) I even use the Futaba 9153 in the ailerons of my new 2.6 Yak!!!
The bottom line is...the 8611 is not the only game in town!!!

I think thay are absolutely horrible. You shouldn't trust your plane to them. In fact, if you will send me all of your 8611's I can dispose of them properly for you... at no cost to you. I'm just that nice[8D]

Since you asked, I'll let you dispose of a couple as well. I'm sure you have the proper training. I draw the line here, though. I can't afford the liability issues involved with letting anyone else dispose of these deplorable servos.

JR servos are known for developing some slop. You won't notice in the air, but try jiggling your surfaces a bit when the plane is on the ground. I know the rudder on my 2.6 has quite a bit (8411's)

RE: JR 8611 Servos-Opinions Please
I think the 8611s are some of the best servos I have seein in a long time, but they leave a bit to be desired. I will start with the good points:
- super holding power
- tons of torque
- fast
- no slop
- not much bigger than a standard servo
- pretty good on power consumption
here are my complaints:
I have recently put 4 8611s into my BVM KingCat. Ittook me over 4 hours to set up my split elevators because of the JR 8611 servos !! I took 2 servos, centered the arms as per the instruction, and installed in the elevator. At center, they were perfectly fine, and at each extreme of deflection were also more or less lined up and symetrical, however, going from one full deflection to the other, one of the servos would lag by at least 1/2". The slower servo also felt weaker than the faster one ( weaker enough where i could feel this by holding the servo arm alone !) ... ok, so now i go to find another servo that matches ... this is where the problems really start !!! I went through 8 8611s to find 2 that somewhat matched !! ( in terms of speed, centering, and endpoints) On some of the servos i found that even though the endpoint travel matched, there were "curves" frm center to endpoint, so at 1/2 stick servos were out of whack while at center and full all was ok ... I finally did find 2 servos that matched, and compensated some by mechanically changing my linkages around, but i still have a 1/16" diference on one servo in travel (at tip of rudder)
my 4 hitech digital servos that went into my Rooki were perfect out of the box !! and thats a cheap servo !!
I will continue using the 8611s, over all i love them, but am dissapointed in the above stated issues ... probably all it would take is a better pot, with some more precision in the servo, as im sure the software is identical in all , and physically the gear trains and engines are probably 99.9% identical in tolerances also ....
bottom line, for $114 (typical going price) there should not be any issues like this ....

RE: JR 8611 Servos-Opinions Please
Please.. Please read the warning that was supposed to come with the 8611's. There's hazardous materials used while producing the 8611's. You need to dispose of them properly - through an approved "Hazardous Materials Disposal" process. I have a contract with Yucca Mountain, you know, the proposed nuclear disposal dump here, just right out of Vegas. They will properly dispose of any 8611's for a modest fee of $100 each. If you're really concerned about the environment, please send me "All" of the 8611's with a check for $100 per servo and I'll make sure that our planet remains safe. Because I'm concerned with the environment, I'd be glad to pay all shipping costs for you.
