Dick, that wouldn't happen to be the long awaited Extreme Flight Yak, would it?

Are you letting the cat out of the bag? Have the Extreme Flight 87" Yaks arrived??????? and why use the ZDZ 50 and not the recommended DA-50?

To put facts straight - - No I am not employed by ZDZ or any agents of them
I use the ZDZ50 simply because I prefer it.

Hey Dick who do you think that you are kidding? I thought that you were going to set the facts straight.

Main Entry: 1em·ploy
Pronunciation: im-'ploi, em-
Function: transitive verb
Etymology: Middle English emploien, from Middle French emploier, from Latin implicare to enfold, involve, implicate, from in- + plicare to fold -- more at PLY
1 a : to make use of (someone or something inactive) <employ a pen for sketching> b : to use (as time) advantageously c (1) : to use or engage the services of (2) : to provide with a job that pays wages or a salary
2 : to devote to or direct toward a particular activity or person <employed all her energies to help the poor>

Sitting on the other side of the fence here, I would say you are employed, and do a good job.

My 2.3 came in last night, incredibly, there was no shipping damage. Everything is very clear now how to do the ZDZ now that I have the parts to look at. Does anybody know where I can buy custom machined standoffs?

I also recently published a write up on the DA100- for 3DFlyer-
The reason we setup the ZDZ80 -not the DA50 w/pipe. is that the plane is in our opinion -simply too heavy for 3D stuff -at out elevation .
A 50 with a pipe can be a very strong setup -jut not as strong as the much larger engine.

OK -for those who are actually doing the ZDZ80/in cowl muffler as I just did (customer's),
here is the final setup:
with 2700 ma Expert batt - 8411's 6 of em and two 517's (throttle and choke) - 32 oz tank 3.375 TT spinner and a 24x10 MenzS prop--1200 ma ignition batt.
No lightening mods or CF tube etc..
19.5 lbs exactly -- balance is 6" aft LE of wing.
So I don't know what the DA 50 w/pipe setups weighed typically (except for one) but I suspect it is fairly close.
One thing for certain

Incorrect power use could like tear it up.

Thanks for the setup specs Dick! 19.5 lbs seems reasanble for this aircraft with the 80. I think most folks would be satisfied, including myself! Where did your receiver battery pack end up? Also, why did you go with such a small spinner, I was going to go 4" Tru-Turn, just curious?

The 3.75 fits perfectly -- if I lowered the engine .125" the 4" spinner would fit---
so-------- it was where I had the engine mounted that dictated it.
also this spinner is extremely light.
The CG will be finalized after flying it - the Rx is about 6" aft the wing tube - batt is on the tube

It sounds like you are maintaining serious distance between ignition and radio components. How close to the ignition system is the throttle and choke servos? The reason I am asking all these questions is this is my first gasser and I want to get the details right from the get go!

Oh yeah, how much right thrust did you end up with Dick? It appears that the motordome has a bit of right offset already built in.

I just checked those standoffs out and they are sweeeet!!! Lots of color choices and any lenth you want with custom offsets available. I'll probably go that route.

Yeah, I have a set of blue on my Laser and Brison 3.2 combo. The engine case is anodised blue and the planes covering is blue so it makes for a good looking setup. They are nice and light also. Good luck with your project.

thrust is aprox 3 degrees right-
it all depends on how you fly -there is no "correct " amount.

I just use wooden oak dowels for my stand-offs. Cheap and easy to make any length you want.

My 2.3 DA50/pipe is 19lbs 6oz. Dick, what is the weight gain if using a JMB canister? I've become pretty addicted to my quiet piped setup. It sounds wonderful.

Well -my scales are right -and I am only 2 ozs heavier ?

strange -
anyway the JMB which works best on a 50 cc engine --weighs -9 ozs (I just weighed it .)
but on my ZDZ50 - on Mejzlic 22x10 ---it runs 7100 rpm.
My pipe runs over 7400 and weighs only 14 ozs --
I just got a new pipe to test which weighs 11 ozs - the KS pipe weighs somewhere between there.
This is at our elevation but all in all it should correlate with sea level -especially now at 40 f outside.
I just came in from doing test runs on the new pipe -so all this is fresh info

Bump...

I am building this combo and wanted to keep the thread going... Any new information out there?

What size fuel tank are you all using for the ZDZ 80?
