It is very sad that our company spends thousands of dollars in design, R&D, manufacturing process, materials purchasing, training programs to educate the workers in the making of these Composite-Arf planes, proper packaging, shipments in large containers, Clearing Customs, Warehousing, just to have some dumb ***** worker in the Shiping company drive forklifts into these crates, drop the boxes out of there trucks and ultimatly destroy our fine products. In the end its the shiping company that will determan if you are profitable or not. I know for a fact our company takes huge losses in damaged goods, directly caused by someones carelessness.

my soap box just broke...

Typically a wood crate and a trucking company. UPS, Fed EX, USPS and other don't handle the large crates. Its not the weight so much as the physical size of the crate. The freight forwarding companies use a term coined DIM weight. This means they measure your crate LxWxH=dollars.

I have shipped numerous planes across the country. A 40% model will cost any where form $100.00 a few states away to $250.00 across the country. Insurance is available and I suggest you buy it, around $1.00 per hundred dollar value. I have yet to need the insurance, but once thought I would as I arrived at the freight depot I noted the crate with my new F-16 was upside down. Luckily it was so well packed and strapped in, all was well.

So I always suggest, one installs some 4x4's on the crate to elevate it for the fork-lift drivers and it NOW becomes obvious which end is up! Also label the crate on all sides with a large arrow pointing up and in big letters TOP LOAD ONLY...

I have had good luck with Forward Air. Moving companies also offer reasonable rates for this sort of thing. The trucking industry has these guys known as Shipping Agents and or Freight Brokers; they have resources around the country that can move your model reasonably, typically much cheaper than the major trucking companies.

I am extremely nervous right about now. I have a composite -arf 2.3m in bound and I thought it was going to be handled by UPS. Instead I find out Conway is the shipper. They are the ones notorious for destroying comp-arf aircraft while enroute, running a forklift through the side of the box etc. Well, all I can do is hope that I get someone that is semicompent to handle my package.

Comp-Arf also uses a new company called Saia truck lines...They also increased the thickness of the shipping crates that are U.S. bound.. I just went to the Reno warehouse and picked up a New G-202 for my Buddy...The US wood crates are thick and TOUGH as well as heavy!!
Shouldn't be too many problems from now on...

John in the past the problem area has been the NE, there has been a few here and there that got banged up but mostly the NE. Just be sure to do a good look before signing for it, be ready to recieve it, be ready to open the box and take a good look at all the contence.

Yo Hecter wat up with the Fantacy? I here from Jens he is already making plans to get it....sweet!
