Try Extreme Flight!! Might still have most of that stuff except for maybe the cover for the rear of the fuse. Just a hunch here.

You don't need the CF dowels pins for the canopy front... you could just use appropriate sized hardwood dowel just fine.
Same on tail hatch cover... just cut a balsa plate to fit, cover it with scraps from the wingslots, stab servo arm openings, etc...
I think I may have an etxra control horn... were they the same size on ails/elevators? I think so...
Wingbolts are standard 1/4-20 thread nylon bolts... You can pick 'em up most anywhere hobby shop or Lowes... hex head or slotted
For the nice tabbed ones that comes with... Chris may some extra...

RE: Extreme Flight 87" Yak 54 - Build & Fly
I checked with Chris and no dice.
Wingbolts are under control. I can make a peice to go on the back of the fuse no problem. I just dont have any sraps due to the fact that the guy that had the plane had already cut all of the openings out, looks like standard ultracote to me.
The biggest problem that I have had is trying to get all of the dirt dobber nest out of the fuse and wings. This thing has been hanginig in the rafters for a while.
Maudib if by chance you have an extra control horn I will buy it from you.
I called Ultra and left them a message but I have not heard back from them yet.
Thanks for the help guys,
Clarke

Nice price, Harry. I'd be tempted if it was closer, particularly since I hit a pocket of nothing down low this morning, and cracked a wing on the Yak(repairable though). I'm sure someone will snag it for that. good luck! T.

RE: Extreme Flight 87" Yak 54 - Build & Fly
I'm thinking about selling my Composite Arf yak55 to get the new 88 inch yak, i just bought the 47 inch yak and think it would be cool to have two different size yaks but the same colors.
Be like mini me..
I had the 30% SD yak54 couple years ago, Do u guys know if the EF yak will be better than the SD yak??
I think i said yak to many times.

Well John looks like your the only one that likes the 87 in. the best ............Must be how......... YOU........ fly......
ORIGINAL: jrjohn
If you own the 87'' EF yak and downgrade the the 88'' depending on how you fly, you may be very disapointed. I know I was. My 88'' hangs on the wall, I fly the 87'' and love it

RE: Extreme Flight 87" Yak 54 - Build & Fly
I dumb thumbed my 87" Yak in yesterday and man I am bummed! This has been my favorite for almost 3 years now. After inspection the wings and stabs and canopy faired well and the cowl was moderately messed up, but the fuse is toast. Tried Chris and he doesn't have any spares left and didn't know if anyone out there had a fuse they wanted to sell. Even if it is one of the so called "twisted" ones. If not, I just might have to get the new 88". P.M. me. Thanks for any help in advance.

I dumb thumbed mine a few weeks ago too. I miss it.
If you keep your eye out something will show up (a fuse). All that's left of mine is the tail feathers and tail wheel. The rest is toast. The cool thing is that you can rip this thing apart to see how it's made. I did that last night and learned a few things. One is to NOT use hinge points on the Ultra RC version. It's just balsa, there's no hard wood block to hold the hinge point.
Many people like the 88". I'll prolly get one eventually.

RE: Extreme Flight 87" Yak 54 - Build & Fly
Well, I'm in the market for Yak 87 parts - if anybody has anything left.
Particularly interested in cowl, canopy, landing gear, wings, or whatever else you have left over that can be used.
I just picked one up that is OK but could benefit from a overhaul just to keep it flying longer....
Thanks.

RE: Extreme Flight 87" Yak 54 - Build & Fly
I have a complete one of these RTF that I would sell. But, given the bloated market on this class of bird, it probably wouldn't sell.
I have so many planes, and this one has not yet flown this year. Before it flies the tank clunk line and all lines ,actually should be replaced. I love this bird, I just don't have the time to fly it. There are too many others in front of it in the hangar.
DA-50R Carbon Spinner, Menz prop.
Fromeco Li-ons, Fromeco Regs.
8611's , SWB everything, Spring latched canopy.
Alum Gear, TNT gear.
Just over 15lbs.
Good condition.
1500 picked up in Chicago.

RE: Extreme Flight 87
Wake up! It's been just over two years since the last post on thread. I wonder how many people are still subscribed?
I'm looking to get into GS and someone has the EF 87" Yak for sale. Of course, that plane design is ~5 yrs old and EF now has the 88" Yak. Can anyone who's had both tell me the differences between the two planes in terms of a) design and b) flight characteristics? Any "bad habits" or cautions I should know about on the 87"?
Thanks,
Alan

RE: Extreme Flight 87
jrjohn,
Thanks. I fly 3D - rolling harriers, lots of high alpha KE flight, tumbles, upright/inverted harriers, parachutes/elevators, blenders, flat-spins, and a little bit of hovering. So which one excels more in these areas?
From reading the EF website, it almost hints (but I can’t tell) that the 87” had issues with snapping on full elevator maneuvers which would be a concern. With the 87” being 2 lbs lighter with the same wing area and engine, I’d think it would have more power. But with the shorter coupling, I’d think it may be less stable and not track as well. What's been your experience in these 3 areas?
Alan

RE: Extreme Flight 87
I never had any issues with it snaping on full elevator imputs, oh maybe once. The plane is probably a little less stable for IMAC but for 3D I think it's a dream. It responds to all imputs quicker than the 88 inch. LOts of guys love the 88 inch, most of them never had the 87. The 87'' became sort of a unpopular (to put it nicely) after the 88 came out. Needless to say this had to be done in order to promote and market the 88 inch. I'll try to sum it up. the 87 inch is lite, nimble, wippy, with a higher power to weight ratio.
The 88 is smooth and stable. (most love this, I don't)
If your not going to buy the 87 please send me a personal message, I'd love to look it at.

I had the 87" and crashed it. It was an awesome plane. Can't get parts for it, that's one major problem. I've had the 88 for two years now and love it just as much and more. Flies a little bigget since it is bigger, mostly the fuse. The wings are almost identical (I compared since I still have an old 87" wing in my basement). If you never need parts the 87" is ok. The 88" is what I'd get though. I prefer how it flies (big and floaty). If you can get a super deal on the 87" that might make a good reason to get it.

RE: Extreme Flight 87
Hello all,
How many people are still flying these 87" Yaks?
Mine has just been in for a service.
The cowl fixing points were pulling out and the undercarriage was very loose. I carefully stripped back the covering from the front end and did a refurb job.
I essentially beefed up the undercarriage plates and used glass cloth to firm it all up. I suspect that if I had flown it from grass, the undercarriage would have pulled out before now.
I put a false former on front of the existing one, where the cowl bolts onto and added additional cowl fixing blocks to spread the weight and firm it all up.
Its now recovered and flying again.

Mine is still in service, I had to do a little rebuild as well, it has hundreds of flights on it. Weight is 14.75 pounds w/o the wheel pants. My Buddie JRV has a new one in the box and he's putting it together this winter, lucky guy! The 87'' is the origional Yak Hot Rod. I sure wish EF would build this plane again.

I have had both. Never ever experienced it snapping with full elevator??? Cannot say which is better, both are 3D monsters but the 87" no longer being in production parts will be an issue.
