Planes Plus 34% Extra Pro Series?
Anyone know anything about these... can't find any info. Foam or built up? I saw Chip Hyde's 34% Extra and it looks almost identical. Is his built up or foam?
I saw that Chip's would weigh in at 26 lbs with a DA-100. To me that seems kind of heavy for 1783 squares. The coming Wildhare Extra 260 with 1750 squares at 23 lbs with a ZDZ-80 might be a better combo?... (it also has a better color scheme)
...opinions?
Also... any word on QuiQue's 100cc Yak?

RE: Planes Plus 34% Extra Pro Series?
I have ordered the Planes Plus 34% Extra. It is built by Hummingbird out of china, the same people that build ARF's for Chip Hyde. It is built up, no foam. I have some nice shots of teh inside of it etc that were sent to me by Carla at Planes Plus. She was not sure what the weight would be but they flew the prototype with a DA100 I think ti was and it was 25 pounds.
I expect to get it next Wednesday Jan 12th will post pics if interested once I get it
cheers

To me they look exactly like columbo anderson extras with minor modifications. CAs are supposed to be great flying planes but the long tail looks funny to me.

I have one of these planes in front of me. The wings are wood - built up. The fuse is balsa and ply with lots of laser cut lightening holes. The fuse also has a sheeted foam belly from the wing tube back towards the tail. The turtledeck is also sheeted foam. The construction, paint and covering look excellent. From the outside, the shape and dimensions look similar to a Columbo Anderson 34%. The internal construction is different. The wing tube location looks about mid, with the fuse formers cut out for cans. Large cans will fit. Planes Plus has a video on their website, so you can see how it performs. The one in the video has a 3W-106 with cans.

I've seen Diablo's plane & the scheme is not bad at all. It's the same scheme as Garrett Morrison's 39% Aeroworks Extra that appeared on the July cover of Model Aviation.
The paint job on the cowl is as good as it gets.

Are the wings fully sheeted? How is the stock hardware? How are the glue joints, etc...?
What do you suspect will be the difference between this and Chip's plane?

Well from I understand they are made by the same ARF manufacturer in China as what Chip uses called Hummingbird. From what I have heard they are very very good builders, just a little on the slow side of things when it comes to building

The wings and ailerons are built up wood. The ailerons are fully sheeted, The wings have some bays cut out for lightening. The stock hardware is the anodized aluminum ball bearing control horns with matching clevises - the same hardware as in the Double Vision. I see that Central Hobbies sells the control horns for $9 each. The plane comes hinged with CA hinges, but you have to glue them in. Glue joints and workmanship look first class. This plane is built in the same factory as the Double Vision. Since Chip Hyde's Extra will also come from the same factory, I would expect minimal changes other than covering scheme.

Those Fuse pictures look a LOT like my Colombo Anderson 27% extra.. Even the cutouts from the side of the fuse look the same. Covering does look nice, Too bad these things weren't out a year ago, woulda saved me the trouble of building my CA extra!

CA hinges in a 34% airplane?!?!?!?
I would expect Robarts or nothing is plane this size!!! Th problem is, there probably isn't sufficient wood to put Robarts in if it isn't already designed around them.

If you want to use Robart hinge points or nylon hinges with a steel hinge pin.....go right ahead.
If there's enough wood to hold a CA hinge, there's enough wood there for any other style of hinge.

Hello,
If it looks loke a Columbo then you guys decide. I have a Columbo and I bought it from planes plus a few years ago. If its not a close copy I would be surprised. But its my opinion.

Hey guys,
If you want to see another video of the Planes Plus 34% Extra check out http://www.mw3d.com/albums/album14/J...r_Shootout.wmv
This is me flying the plane at the Lonestar 3D Shootout. Not a great flight at all but after all it was blowning 20mph w/ gusts to 30mph. If you have any other questions about the plane or set-up feel free to contact me.
Thanks,
Jeff Pfeifer

RE: Planes Plus 34% Extra Pro Series?
Hi there all,
I'm almost complete with my 34% extra from planes plus. . . . similar to you guys, I'm extremely happy with the bird, and love dealing with Carla, the sweetheart with the best customer service I've ever encountered.
I'm looking to see if anyone knows how the wing assembly is completed. I'm not familiar with the hardware, and do not have an instruction manual.
Please advise if any of you can help.
Thanks! Jesse

okay boys on this plane what size spinner ar eyou running, I am guessing a 4.5" but I have been known to be wrong before. Also did you put baffles inside the cowl to direct air over the cylinders to cool the engine ?
