Looks like it's moving along.
My Carden 35% extra 300 (older bird) is going together slowly but surely.
have a little more trim, then the engine & radio install.
Will post more complete pictures tonight.

Thanks, Shortman -
Yes, I use a Miter Saw and Miter Sander from Fourmost Products to cut the sticks. Actually like the sander the best - really a great tool. Just measure the angle (have a clear protractor), mark and sand to the mark - really makes this kind of stuff easy.

By the looks of the picture with all the squares it looks like you glued the socket on one of the fuselage sides. I hope you didn't glue it yet as it doesn't go 90 degrees with the fuse if you know what I mean.

oops...nevermind...kaos beat me to it...
I seriously doubt he did....so far it looks like he's really taking his time and doing this build right. If you've visited either build site off of Carden's website, you'd see Kaos is doing what was described on those sites.
Basically he's using the fuse socket to align the socket support plates on each fuse side. I did mine the same way. Once the fuse was framed up and it was time to install the socket, I measured only a 1/32" difference from each tube end to the tip of the tail. It saves a lot of headache later trying to sand down the holes for the socket and wigglying the tube around until it's perfect.

This evening's progress - not a lot of time but things are moving a little...
Got the stab socket supports glued up, decided to edge glue the fuse side sheeting prior to attaching to trusses, and a small start on the motor box (landing gear support blocks installed).

Well, I think I've got my flat surface problem solved. A friend and I (thanks Ken!) got the slate pieces I picked up moved down to the basement tonight. Still have some leveling to do but I should be out of excuses for not making any progress on the wings...maybe this weekend....

Now I am jealous! Have you laid a straight edge to verify that the table is straight. If you dont mind waht did you pay for the slate and also what table bases are you using?
Thanks,
Perry

PTS,
Yes, I checked the tables for "straightness" before I brought them home - they're perfect in every direction. The stands are from Rockler Woodworking - you can buy the legs and stretchers and basically build any size frame you want -they're a great product.
I called several billiard table suppliers in the local area here and one of them referred me to a guy that restores old tables. Gave him a call and he had what I was looking for - both pieces were damaged on the corners, which doesn't affect what I need them for! Got both for $100.
Regards,
Bob

Bob you are most certainly welcome! The build area is fantastic and Carden looks even better in person. Although I too am anxious to see some progress made on them wings. I got to see the boxes of parts last night and let me say only one word comes to mind when looking at the parts - intimidating! Anyway the plane looks great, thanks for the updates and keep up the good work. I can't wait to see this plane fly!

Here's the progress over the past few days -
I decided I didn't like the "butt" joint that would be created with the fuse side sheeting so I cut the long section diagonally across one of the trusses, added a small truss and joined up the short (towards the tail) piece like this:
Also glued up / sanded the wing skins...will post next...

Below are pictures of the wing skins being glued up and the sanded skins. Now just need to lay out the aileron servos on each wing, cut the foam for servos/wires and I'll be ready to glue up the skins.

PT,
The new table has been great - not sure what I did without it, actually!
Ok everyone, I'm working on laying out the aileron servo locations today - planning on using 8611's with H9 titanium links (3" or 3.5" ) with Rockey City hardware and Airwild 1.25" arms. I'd appreciate recommendations on servo distances from tip/root of the foam cores and setback from the core trailing edge - anyone have a photo of their setup on a 35% they could share?
Thanks...
Bob
