1/4 scale full body pilot
I need help. I need to find out where to get a WWI 1/4 scale full body pilot. I have found lots of "bust" figures, but my Fokker DVII has a fully functional cockpit. A bust figure would look stupid. Any suggestions? Thanks. Jeff

Great shop in Wichita area that specializes in Giant Scale.
They have a local artist paint pilots etc. with good/great detail at minimum cost. They can hook you up with exactly what you want.

Sheldon's Hobbies at http://www.sheldonshobbies.com/listing/dga.html sells them for around $11.00 apiece for the kit for them...and if you check around at http://www.wwi-models.org/ (for static display modelers of WW I aircraft) I've heard of references existing at THAT site for the appearance of the flying clothing that WW I aviators wore for BOTH the Allies and the Central Powers.
The DGA pilots are VERY lightweight...and even though they DO take a bit of care in their assembly, you'd be rewarded with a LIGHTWEIGHT pilot that LOOKS scale, and if it was built around a "skeletal armature", like the sort used for Ray Harryhausen's and Phil Tippett's "stop-action" figures, used in movies like "Clash of the Titans" and those old 1950's era Sinbad movies that Ray Harryhauusen used to make up the mythical creatures for, that were the "special effects" creatures in those movies, you COULD have a figure that could be linked to the joystick AND rudder bar...and if the scale flight controls MOVE when you operate the flight controls, that quarter scale pilot would look like HE is flying your model...it's been done many times before in RC Scale (and VERY NICELY for WW I aircraft!) and is VERY impressive in the pilot's seat. (Phil Tippett started out doing "stop-action" figures for George Lucas in Star Wars...remember Darth Vader's Imperial Walkers in "The Empire Strikes Back"???)
The sort of linkages you'd need for the armature's movable joints are the SAME sort that are used for model aircraft control linkages...a "ball link" works nicely for shoulders and hips on the armature, and a regular clevis works well for elbows, ankles and knees.

I thank you all for the information. I have looked at the sites and guess I will go with the Proctor. I have had very good transactions with them before. I had just never looked at their pilot before. As for the scale prop. I got one from clark industries in Canada. Its not to bad. Again, thanks all.
