I am in the same boat. I am not sure if the plane will balance with a BME 110. I am using Hitec 5645MG on all surfaces except the rudder where I plan to use two 5945MG.

I wonder how it would do with the new 3W 80.

Why are people are running two servo's per wing on a plane this small? I am using one 5945 on planes from my GP Cap to my AirWild Edge. Thats 99" to 105", oh and my Comp-Arf 2.6m Yak too. Why do you want to add all of the weight to a rotational part of the plane? If the wing is heavier, it take more to start it moving, and more to stop it.

I am not try to be a pain, I am just being logical and econmical. Also, I have personally done these things and am much happier with this setup.

That is the way they engineered it.

I went to PHX to pick mine up as the shipping co. failed to call me back twice to schedule a delivery and could not tell if morning or afternoon was possible. This small agravation was forgot when I opened it up and saw the quality of paint and manufacture. Looks like it's gonna be just what I was looking for. I was looking at the Yak and thinking that if someone would make a 540 I'd buy it. I saw this thread seconds later and that helped make up my mind.

I'm considering getting one of these... How does it compare to the comp arf 2.6 extra...
Has anyone here actually flown both of them and can make the comparisons?
I'm thinking a DA-100 with cans on either the comp-arf, or the edge.

I'm not so much an IMAC flyer, but want a floter for slow high alpha rolls, and 3d stuff.
Also had my eye on the 260 extra from wild hare...

Would appricate any comparisons between these planes... I'm leaning twards the Edge, but would appricate others opionons.

The Edge would make a better 3D platform than either Extra.
Got the Wild Hare 36% Extra 330LX with a 3W100 on headers/canisters.
All up at 28Lbs. Better IMAC plane.
Also Have the Wild Hare 28% Edge 540T, with a ZDZ-60RV/Pitts muffler.
All up at 18 Lbs. Very good for 3D/high alpha flight.
Looking at getting a larger Edge in the 100cc class.
Got a DA-100 sitting here needing a good home.

After this coming weekend I will have flown both the comp-arf extra and this edge. As for floating, I seen a demonstration by as futaba factory flier of this plane and the finish of his demo is when he climbs to about 500' kills the engine and does loops, spins and rolls on the way down and then lands. I need to get the video downloaded to my computer and posted somewhere.

Just found out that the owner of Xtreme composites use to work for Comp-arf. Another funny thing is the currenty owner of Comp-arf hates Edges, and will never produce one.

That statement is indeed something Andreas has said in the past. However, at this years Joe Nall he mentioned to me that he is indeeed planning on an Edge...not sure whether it would be a 540T or just a 540 thoughed. Last year he said that he was going to build a Pitts 12 and an Extra 260 and now both are here (within a year) so I suspect an Edge to be forth coming from Comp-Arf. We'll see, but so far he has built what he said he was going to.

FYI, it looks like they have a 2.2m Edge 540T out now also.

surprised there is not more comment on this thread from those that have owned / flown the model

Is this just a symptom of its "newness" or is it not a high end choice ?

Would like to know more about build experience / difficulty, true weights, pureness in flight - ie what needs for mixing, stability in stalled manouvres etc and any wear and tear issues ....

much obliged, thanks

Probably symptom of newness as it is a high end arf. I have not been able to start the build as I have a super Xtra taking up all my building time and my building table. It is almost finished so I can probably start next week.

Can someone please give me the firewall to spinner backplate distance on this plane. I am on the fence about ordering one and would like figure out which of my spare engines would fit.

The single color scheme for $940 sounds like a very fair price for a 2.6m composite edge.

Thanks, Mike

My plane is at the field so I can't measure, but with a DA100 it takes 10mm standoffs to put the spinner backplate right where it needs to be.

hey rcdude7,

yeah the single colour scheme is nice. the glass work is real good. cant wait to fly mine next month. i bit the bullet and got the fantasy scheme and it looks even better in the flesh.

hey japan 3d

how did the 540 balance out with the da and what is the final weight, no fuel.

any one flown theirs yet?????

It balanced without any additional weight needed. Put the batteries on the aft edge of the ruuder tray and ignition battery right next to the fuel tank. As for weight, I never weigh my airplanes. I'm sure it close to the advertised weight, and the 2 I have seen fly had no issues with power for hovering or pulling out of a hover. I figure the DA100 with a 27 x 10 menz is putting out between 55-60 lbs of thrust, so anything better then 1:1 thrust to weight ratio is good enough for me.

Aerowiz,

I posted earlier that I built the first one in the US that was on display at Toledo Show. What a very well mannered plane with a 3W100 on the nose. I have mine set up for IMAC and competed this year in 3 meets, 1-4th, 1-2nd and 1 1st place. Very smooth and predicitable. I now have it set up for 3D since the season is over. It has all the traits that the Edge displays, no tip stalls, no wing rock in harriers, rock solid elevators and hovers with the best of them. I have over 75 flight on mine and love every one!

3W 100
Futaba 9350 all the way around
Lipo batteries

25.8 lbs dry

hey kitman,

thanks for the info. sounds like a good flyer. ive noticed the rudder gets about 45 deg max, is this enough or do i have to take to it with a dremel?

im going with the da. also that main landing gear is heavy at 1 pound. i have a graphtec carbon one im going to try and fit. it weighs 8 oz. i let everyone know how that went.

anyone with a video?
