I'm not sure when they will be shipping. But I know wayne wants to make sure that these planes are packed proper. I helped with the fuse boxes and we put the third box around the two boxes that were already around the fuse . so when you get the fuse you will have to spend about a hour to unpack this thing.
Now the wings are different ,and wayne wants to make sure that thier are some support in the box, so they can't be crushed. I think you will appreciate the care that they are taking on the packing of your airplane. QQ and Wayne rather spent alittle time and money to make sure that parts don't get damaged in shipping. I think I would want to wait alittle longer to make sure of that ,than have to wait another week or two to get new wings,or fuses because of broken parts.. IMO the planes will be getting shipped sometime next week.

What sort of wingtube comes with the plane, is it anodized aluminum, or carbon? how does the paint match on the cowling?

an update on the headers, etc. The headers QQ used on his yak were custom made, and its pretty apparent right now that there is not a 100% solution for headers for 3w 106. The drop on the 3w headers seems to be too deep, the flex header MAY work, but not for sure. Guaging the pictures in the manual, the drop from the header is minimal, but less than a regular 3w header. I decided since I dont want to hassle with making a set of custom headers, that the headers for the bme 110 should work, seeing how the drop is only 2" or so. I plan on the 110 on cans instead of the 106. I will post how this works out as well.
I was looking on the AI website and there are several low drop headers available... I have sent a message to QQ to see what he recommends, I too want to use the 3W engine, but I don't really want to go through the hassle and expense of making a header..

It looks to me that with the cans one will need the weight of the 3W on this plane...

Desert, the cans need a very shallow drop, not a deep one, and that is the problem. I went with the bme instead of the 3w, because there was no 100% solution to the headers for a 106, and the bme header is very shallow. The header QQ used was custom made, and is very shallow. I spoke to Wayne at QQ about the header, and he recommended possibly the ks flex header, but the drop was 2 3/4", and believed that to be too much of a drop. I really didnt want to go through the pain of making a set of headers, hence, I went with the bme and cans since that would work. On the balance, after speaking to them, if you use a regular DA or 3W engine, regular mufflers, the plane balances with no issues. My 110 with cans weighs about the same as a 3w 106 with stock mufflers, so balance will be no issue. If you use a 3w with cans, you have to mount batteries, etc, in the aft portion bay of the fuse, if you use a lighter engine, you mount it to the front. I will be ok with the 110 on cans, and should make great power. I will be happy when the plane comes in, have all the stuff just sitting here waiting for it.

I understand the box thing. It just aggravates me that I have paid for the plane and now it's not shipping. IMO it should not be paid for until it ships, and I was promised this past monday would be the shipping date. I guess like the rest of you it will get here when it friggen gets here!

Its not like they are halfway across the country for you..just a state..you might be able to take a roadtrip and pick it up, not sure how far it is, might give ya a break on the $$ because he wouldn't have to ship it.

Da I believe has a 70mm, 80mm, and a 90mm drop. I would think that the 70 would work.

The wing and tail tubes are Carbon. The paint is a good match but there are some hard paint lines. This is only a problem if you want to sand down and repaint and recover the aircraft. The one in my shop was picked up by the owner. Once he gets all the parts rounded up. Radio gear and motor we will get it done and post reports.

Hey Wayne,

after finishing the 2 35% edges and building a new house, I finally got around to get the wings done on the extra but I ran out of time
for the rest to be flying it this year , besides all the talk about how awesome the YAK 54 is I figured I should
have one anyway. But I will get er done once some free time comes along

Well all ... COUNT ME IN.. I just ordered my Yak today. It was a tough decision but after looking at all the pics and talking to Dion and Wayne it just made sense. The wing boxes are in, should ship tomorrow...

flyingrazorback - how long did it take for you to get that BME 110 ? I heard they were on allocation and hard to get..

I like the QQ106 so much I might just have to go to my friends shop and use his TIG welder. They sell all the parts to make headers...

Do any of the BME, KS or other headers fit the 3W and have a small enough drop?

desertpig,

saw your other post about best plane. I got side-tracked for awhile looking at the JTEC Penzl; but you just can't fight it. Ultracoat, CF wing tubes, wingbags, whats done and whats not, etc, etc. I think right now the QQ is the best one out there. I'm getting this one also.

Splais... that is exactly the thought process I went through as well. This is a very complete ARF. I really like the covering scheme too, the pics don't do it justice. I saw Hempel flying the big 3W Yak with the same scheme and it was very striking in the air. Maybe for once I will have a plane I can just put my stuff in and go fly without having to rebuild or re-cover it!

Looks we can all be guinea pigs together.. but my guess is we are going to be happy pigs if this plane is anything like the smaller QQ plane I have seen!

DP, yes and since you live in Arizona it would be criminal not to get the DA100. I know there are a lot of great engines out there. but I'm sorry, I've had the DA50 and DA100 crashed them both and had to send them back for repair. the companies customer service just can't be described.

I actually called them and asked if I would get the same service if I bought the motor out of state to save the sales tax. They said they didn't care were I bought it. If it's a DA they give everyone the same service. they were right. Now if the darn plane will just get here!
