RE: NEW 30% BME EDGE II
I checked the BME site and could not find any mention of a new edge. What's the difference between this and the old one? 2.5 lbs is a lot to loose. I like the colour but I'd get rid of the yellow, purple and pink stripes.

The new Edge hasn't been added to the website yet... but I suspect soon.
Those different color stripes can easily be removed and replaced... use them as a template and cut anything you want.... what about that nice prismatic stuff... that wuold add some dazzle.... maybe pinstripped with black or dark blue to set them off....

RE: NEW 30% BME EDGE II
Different perceptions of what's cosidered appealing can vary a great deal from country and ethnicity... if you look at many of the oriental designs you will find a wide spectrum of colors sometimes not fitting the "Western" eye. We often like ordered, color theory following schemes while it seems overseas designs feature more clashing, outside-the-box collections of colors.
Eventually the mainstream purchasing will begin to speak volumes on schemes.
Pilots in general will consider the scheme as a strong secondary reason to purchase an ARF. How many times have we heard, LOVE the plane and scheme, but those colors... ick... Iwoulnd't buy it for that reson alone.
Still yet... schemes like the BME Edge and others are easily modified (like in the case with these stripes in question. Simply peel them off and replace with a minimal amount of covering and expense. Then again there will be plenty of people who like it as is... beauty and the eye of the beholder thing ya know...

I agree that the attempted rainbow portion of the scheme detracts from the looks. (and I often like the outside the box schemes)

Maybe, but we must assume (uh oh) that BME (the customer) tells the manufacturer what scheme they want.

Yes I would think so, and MAX has good taste.

I'm sure Max Chen and his partners in BME Aircraft do have say in the schemes. As is the case with the Edge, I suspect they wanted to keep it similar so as not to differentiate it from the early Edge too much.

What is the ARF covered in.... is it still China Kote or is it real covering like Ultracote?? I like the plane, the older heavier one flies very well so lighter is better. I would buy the ARC if the ARF had Chinacrap on it.
Max had said in earlier posts that all the new planes will have Ultracote... so who knows.

RE: NEW 30% BME EDGE II
Guys,
I recently had chance to go flying with Max of BME and I want to give you a report of the new Edge II he brought with him. Now I have the original Edge540 from BME with a DA50 and absolutely love it. I’ve also seen and flown many of the 50cc-sized airplanes out there and there are many good ones to choose from these days. This one stands out and surprised the hell out of me so much so I was still thinking about this morning and decided to share it with you.
Side by side, new and old, they are very similar. This first thing I noticed was that the entire plane was built up. The new one has just a tad bigger wing. The wing utilized hardwood spars as well as CF spars and were extremely lightweight. The wing attaches with a nylon stud and nut within the fuse, pretty standard stuff. The tail feathers were also built up as well. Max stated that the vertical stab comes pre-mounted and was aligned correctly. The fuse is about the same, however it uses smarter use of lightening techniques compared to the original. CF tubes for the wings and stabs and production will have fiberglass landing gear and a CF tail wheel (his prototype had the original gear).
Flying, this airplane locks in to high-alpha routines effortlessly. Harriers, walls, parachutes...just totally blew my mind. The sweet spot for harriers is wide-range, almost anywhere you have the stick. This plane is so light on the wing the fearless 3d’ers out there will be able to exit from blenders just inches from the ground. Max has the BME 50 in his and it had more than enough power for this plane. Having that extra wing area and the loss of the extra weight truly makes it fly like a bigger plane.
This is only one mans opinion but I would say that this Edge II will be king of the hill in the 3d 50cc arena. Just wait until these start hitting the flying field. I don’t want to take anything away from the all the Yak’s out there but this Edge will give them a run for the money. Last year there were hardly any choices when it came to 50cc acrobatic aircraft, now finally life is good! Attached below are some pictures of Max putting the plane through its paces. Please excuse the pictures, it was raining off and on and a pretty dark day overall.
