Default Comp-arf Yak weights

I am posting this because there was someone that didn't believe that my Comp Arf Yak weighed in at under 22 pounds, i have pics now, and witnesses as to the weighing of the plane, it has half a tank of gas in it when we weighed it and it is 21 pounds 6 oz, with the ZDZ 80, i still could add the C/F tube and a Li-po batt for the ignition instead of the nicad to bring the weight down, but it flys so good i am not gonna bother unless i bend the tube. My brother was there when i weighed it.

Wildman, how is the power on the ZDZ? you are running one servo per surface too right? I dont know whether to go with this plane or not, like to see some vids of one flying, but no one has any. Heard horror stories on here of the CA planes, and service, dunno what to think there.

Thanks for any input, just trying to learn whether the plane is worth it or should I go with a woody.

Hi Fastlif, Yes i am running one servo per surface, Hi-tec 5995's on the ailerons and one on the rudder and 5945's for the elevators, the zdz has tons of power at this weight, it will hover at about half throttle and we are at 1500' above sea level, i have no problems with the plane at all, it flys absolutely beautifully, except for upright harriers, it has some inherent wing rock that everyone experiences with it, here is a link to a video of a guy flying his woth a QS 106 i think. http://www.toctw.com/TOCTWVCD/xiguanyak55.wmv right click and save it so as to save him bandwidth please.

If I purchase one this winter, I want to run a DA, I have had great times with their motors, so its good to know someone else out there has a real light one too with a DA on it. I would love to run one servo per surface, makes things much easier. Thanks for the vid, and any pics you guys have. I love the look of this machine, to me its the best looking plane out there.

wildman420

Do you have a picture of your single rudder servo setup? I was thinking of using the stock rudder servo box and mounting the single servo in the middle of it. Also what size servo arm did you use? Were are your exit holes for the pull pull cables?
thanks

Fastlif, i am about 3 hours or so from Kingston, Mike, i cut a rectangular hole in the floor and ran 2 hard wood spars the full width of teh fuse and mounted the servo to the blocks, I am using an airwild 3" aluminum arm and exit slots are the same as on the Comp-arf website that has building tips www.composite-arf.co.uk the site has some great set-up and building tips.

WIldman420 I plan on using the stock rudder servo box comp includes in the kit will this be ok? Is there any reason you didn't use the stock box? With the single servo and the 3" arm are you getting full deflection of the rudder?

This is how I did my rudder. It's a little expensive, but I am a composites guy. It uses one Hitec 5735.

Thanks for the video! It's the first decent video I have seen of this plane.

In reply to Darrinc:

Gimme a break here......

If this is true, then your set-up with a ZDZ 80 would be almost 2 pounds less - putting you under 20 lbs. NOT TRUE -CAN'T BE -NO WAY

some 27-30% planes weight this much or more

Maybe you are injecting the wings with HELIUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No I am not running cans, I see no need for it. I have one servo per control surface, a 2300mah Li-Ion for RX and a 1200 2-cell Li-Poly for IGN, one receiver and a switch for each RX and Ign. I used all the stock control horns but only the base of the fuel tray on the inside. This is my second year with it so please no, that will never work comments!

The ZDZ 80 that I weighed was almost exactly one pound lighter than my DA100, which will put me at 20.6lbs. I will probably put the carbon stab tube back in with the ZDZ for balance. I can't wait!

KISS = LITE!

capngriz-
Every plane will weigh a little different. It all depends on who layed up the material and how much epoxy, etc. they used. If you also want to spend a couple of extra bucks I believe they will make you a lighter version of any plane they manufacturer. I have a very light extra 2.6 too, but I also used the KISS principle.

I'm also running DA 100 single servo's on ailer-rudd one lith-ion for rec and one lith-ion on ign and a switch for each but i'm going to run mtw 75 cans. I too shortened the side walls on the stock fuel tank tray. How do you think it will balance? Any ideas on battery placement? Will the cans throw my cg off with this setup?
