CA models Extra 27% or 31% for mvvs 58?
My friend wants to buy himself a CA Extra for his mvvs 58 and we were wondering which one to get- 27% or 31%. He wants to buy the 27% and I was rather thinking of 31% built light (under 20lbs). What do You think?? He wants to order it ASAP.

I have a CAmodel Extra 300L 31% with a ZDZ 80RV, and a friend of mine has got a Wild Hare Edge 2150mm, with a MVVS 58 with cannister. I have flown the edge of my friend many times. It has good power, but I don't recommend you using the MVVS 58 for a 31% Extra.
I recommend you to put the MVVS 58 on the 27% Extra, and you'll enjoy with it.

I don't know what you guys are thinking, but the MVVS 58 is absurd for a "12" lb 78" plane. Even the MVVS 45 is too much for it. I had bought the MVVS 58 for my 87" Yak and decided it was too heavy and big for that airframe. Other people are flying this combo, but I opted for lower wing loading instead of insane power....for what, I ask? The MVVS 45 I ended up putting in this 17.25lb plane is unlimited vertical with good pull-out from a hover....and its brand new. The 31% CA is supposed to weigh in the 18.5 lb weight range, so add a 1-1.5lbs for reality, and that's absolutely perfect for the 58, and it will still be a rocket.
The 58 will produce in the 40+lb thrust range, so tell me why that isn't enough for a 20lb plane? Sometimes I think people just get carried away with numbers and lose touch with reality. Put it in the 31%, you'll be thrilled with it.

He has made a decision- he bought a Wildhare Edge 540, although he wants to finish his 84" Extra first- we will see how it flies first.

I had a 27% Columbo with a ZDZ50 15.5 lbs had plenty of power, but I didn't really like it that much... plane felt very squirly, and doesn't have nearly as much wing area as other 27% designs (wild hare etc) I actually prefer my wild hare 1.20 edge with a saito 180
