RE: Tucano Turboprop build thread
Hello all !
I´m planning to start a tucano project and I´m trying to find what the best kits are....
So far I have seen the 1/4 scale shown on this forum (www.proppower.biz) and the 1/5 scale from www.ardmodels.com
I tried to contact ARD Models by all means (e-mail, fax and phone) but I haven´t had any replies....Are they still in buisness?
Please help me out since I really want a Tucano with a turboprop to be my next project !!!!
By the way....Your´s looks AWESOME NO1 !!!! CONGRATULATIONS!
Thanks very much.
Best regards,
Nicolás.

Hi No1 !
I just bought my Tucano in Black at the recent Jet Power 2005. I saw Martin Sannwald ( Distributor for Switzerland ) fly this beauty and after that i was not able to withstand. I´m not sure if i will power her with the Jet Cat or the Wren Turboprop unit - what would you think ? Sure both unit´s are great.
I also will order the new Landing Gear from Michel, this gear looks fantastic !
I will post some pictures later on.
Good look with your baby !
warm regards
Thomas

Re. power, go with Wren. Best support on the planet with a very reliable and well designed turboprop. I am running mine on a CAP232 for the moment.
Good luck

RE: Tucano Turboprop build thread
Thomas,
I am 100% convinced that the Wren TP is a reliable powerplant (73 flights). I believe(my own opinion) that there are still some issues regarding the gearbox in the other powerplant you refer to.
I to like the new gear from Michael, however...being in the USA could pose a problem with spare parts availability and repair times in the event of a poor landing. Do you have any sources to supply scale decals or stencils for the exterior, and do you know if a cocpit kit is available??
best regards,
Ron Ballard

Hello Peter and Ron !
I know it will be a hard decission which Powerplant i will use, i tend to take the WREN as well.
As for the Decals, i will contact my good Friend Ralf Schneider of www.tailormadedecals.com in Germany, he is a real wizzard when it comes down to get Scale Decals and Paintings. When he does not have any yet, give him some time and he will have some !
How will you guys paint yours ? I´m not sure yet.
But maybe something like this:

Firewall plate installed. make sure to radius the front, outer edge of the plate to fit into the inner radius of the fuse...allowing a flush fit to the fiberglass.

RE: Tucano Turboprop build thread
EICAS,
I have now set the acceleration delay down to 15, and the deceleration delay to 40. Do not go much lower on the deceleration...as this can cause a flame-out if the throttle is retarded to quickly. I now have 72 flights on my Carden 35%. With a 26X12 2 blade the prop idle is 1200 (idle speed of turbine is 40K) and top rpm is 6400 (top rpm is 160K)
Hope this helps.

RE: Tucano Turboprop build thread
Ron, my settings are way different actually.
I have a fuel restrictor between the pump and the engine to force the pump to operate at a slightly elevated voltage and hence operate more precisely. Before the restrictor, I was at 020 and 085 respectively, however now Acc. is 010 and Dec is 015. (and these can come down a little bit more)
Idle rpm is 45000 and max is 140,000 by choice, more power than I need for a 25lbs airplane with unlimited performance, take off to climb or knife edge or any maneaovre really.
Will crank up the rpm to 159,000 on the Tucano for sure after seeing these clips.

The PC-9 and Tucano look similar but are 2 different models. Tucano is made from Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer, if I am not mistaken. The PC-9 here in the US is called the T-6A Texan II that recently took over trainer duties for the USAF replacing the old Cessna T-37 Dragonfly and yes its from Swiss manufacturer Pilatus.

Is the Tucano based on the Pilatus PC-9? I really like the -9 but you never see a kit of it. There used to be some -9s that the Army used for camera chase ships that I would like to model someday.
Thanks,
Mike

let me throw in my .02c on this subject.
The T-27 Tucano (=Toucan) started out as the Embraer EMB-312 under the Brazilian Air Force requirement for the development of a new Advanced Trainer. It was designed by a Hungarian-Brazilian named Josef Kovacs then employed as an aeronautical engineer at Embraer. Nowadays he´s retired and designs ultralight aircraft.
It came out sooo good that it was quickly allowed to be sold to foreign Air Forces as well, and was later built under license by Shorts Aircraft in England. It´s commonly referred to as being a Shorts Tucano with it´s brazilian license-built version - which is definitely a big mistake.
Nowadays it has a fully operational, armed version called the EMB 314 Super Tucano, designated as ALX-1 under the Ground Attack Aircraft program.
And the Esquadrilha da Fumaça (=Smoke Squad) uses the T-27 as their offical mount, being among the best airshow teams in the world. Nowadays with a striking blue, green and yellow paint scheme.
It has a striking resemblance with the Pilatus PC-9 but they are 2 totally different aircraft. They were not even based on each other.
And the AT-6 TEXAN II is built by Beechcraft Raytheon, although under license from Pilatus in Switzerland.
Well, hope to have added some to the facts...
Marcus
