Tucano Turboprop build thread **VIDEO**
The delivery truck just arrived with my latest project: The Jetpower Tucano from Michael Binder. I will be installing a Wren Turboprop in this one for power. I now have over 6 hours run time and 50 flights on my first Wren installed in a 35% Carden with absolutely no issues, so a second engine is coming from Roger & Sarah....complete with smoke system.

Gazzer,
Roger installed a fitting on the exhaust assy for me at the factory. I am pondering a pressurized system with a mechanical valve. Use an air tank with a pressure regulator. No batteries to deal with and no chance of electrical noise.
The finish on the plane is as nice as any ARF I have seen from here in the States. Great panel lines and massive carbon fiber wing spars. Flap, ele and ail hinging the same as the Kingcat, and the rudder is the typical English piano wire thru the hinge point design.
There does appear to be quite a bit of work to do though, as there are no provisions for the motor mount. I will call Michael next week once he returns from the WJM. In the pics above, the plane on the floor is a 35% Carden, so this plane is BIG.

Re the air pressurised smoke system, I bought a German language magazine some time ago (pictures work for me!!!).
There was a design for an air pressurised smoke system and it appeared to work really quite well. This project did not use standard air tanks but plastic ones. I could try and dig out the mag if you would like if it might help?

Yes keep us updated on this one. I have a Wren T.P in a Graupner Turbo Raven and I am looking for a replacment airframe and the tucano would be a good .

I have 6 Tucanos, but not like this, how much do you paid for this? what scheme color you will use? Is the Tucano based on the Pilatus PC-9? I really like the -9 but you never see a kit of it. There used to be some -9s that the Army used for camera chase ships that I would like to model someday.

and yes its from Swiss manufacturer Pilatus. 1st pic is a Tucano, 2nd is the PC9

The prop I use on this engine is a carbon 26 X 12 2 blade . It tachs out at 6400 rpm with the turbine set at 160,000 rpm. I now have 62 flights on my first engine and have had zero problems.
Here is a shot of the Tucano all assembled, just to get the "build hormones " to kick in....

Stab & elevator assembly. Hinged the same as a Comp ARF or KC. Stabs plug into an aluminum tube and are aligned by C/F pins. Very strong, simple and light.
Elevator servos mount to inside of stab and a slot must be cut for the servo arm. I must also cut out the area at the fuse to stab root for the servos to slide into.

Nice aluminum control horns and hardware provided in kit. These simply glue into a hardwood block on each control surface.

Wing pinned and fitted. The massive carbon spars interlock. Very simple design that is well thought out. No alignment problems here..........
