DP Extra / Saito 180
I am currently building a Dave Patrick Extra and plan to use a Saito 180 on it. What would be a good prop to use on this combination? Does anyone have any experience with this combination? Any help would be appreciated.

You will be xtremely disappointed. The saito 180 is best for 12lb and under aircraft. Once you add gas it will weight around 14lbs, the max for this engine.
The DP extra will weight around 14 lbs WITHOUT fuel. The moki 180 underpowers it, you need a moki 2.1 or gas...

Seems like this is in the same size range as the h9 cap. I have the saito 180 turning a pro-zinger 18x6 on that combination. I am just put the 7th flight on it, but it seems to be plenty of power.

if you are not worried about 3d the saito 180 will fly it.....but why would you want to burn 24oz of fuel in 10 min when this plane is capable of using a moki or a gasser?
moki 2.1 will dance this plane all over the sky
www.3dbatix.com and see the 330l video
a zdz 40 or 50 is great in this plane, also see bme 50 and fpe 2.4
you are crazy not to run gas, just did my fist gasser.....you can go to the field with just gas can and stop and fill up for 1.50 a gallon, then flip start and enjoy 25-30lbs of thrust!

DP extra
I have been thinking of getting one too,its a beauty ,almost as sweet as my new 1/4 Patty Wagstaff 300...My question is I have a never used G38 with C&H ign.,I would want to use smoke on it too if I bought one.Think that would be enough power for the DP Extra??

Re: DP extra
don't do it,
if you are going to put ch on anything use a g45 or a poulan conversion, the g38 is a dog......................it is good for scale or stick planes.
16 1/2 lbs sounds very heavy for a dp extra, I know of gassers out there in the 15 lb range and less, heck my GP extra PW is at 15 1/2 lbs with a 2.8 gas and 3 1650 mah batteries and it is fully sheeted!
Keep in mind the saito 180 is less than 2 lbs, and a gasser with ign and battery will get you closer to 4lbs.
A saito 180 in a dp extra should come in 12-13 lbs dry...................and it will hover...but.....................$26.00 a gallon for 30/23 glow fuel at 2+ oz a minute.
I would not do a saito.....it is best in a TRUE 1.20 sized plane, this plane is more like a 27-28%.....even tho DP sells it as a 1.20.......rumor has it that one of his personal 330l's has a gasser!
