Default Hitec FM

One of the TOC guys told me a Hitec FM will work find with gas engine just put antena on the out side. If you use PCM you need to do the same. I was having lots of trouble with mind. The wires are all together and i put the Hitec FM in and they all went away.Just my 2 cents on what it did to stop my trouble. Good luck guys

Default zdz motors with falkon ignition

Buy a RF FILTER from radio shack and install it in-line with the ignition. They clamp over the wire.

Hey wreckrman, the stock that you put over the foam between the aileron and wing in this picture, is that what came with the kit, yours looks thicker then what I see in the kit, I've got 4mm stock.

GO into Hitecs home page and go under servos and you will find it .It is the 5625 they are the older ones dated 2001 If you run them past 135% they can give you a problem they have 4 of mine now. I think that they should see that the hobby shops are informed about this. I just happened to luck out and find it when I was looking for some servos WESCO

Ohhhhhhhh... this was a while back, 2001 to be exact. They have found the problem and since they fixed it. You can get a programmer and download the new software version into the servo to correct the problem.

Well I flew it yesterday... I wrote up a nice long flight review this morning about 4am then accidently hit the wrong damn button and lost it all. Pissed me off!

I put three flights on it and Tim Mills, a friend, put one more. It flew great the moment it took off. I didn't have to give it a single click of trim anywhere and the landing was much sweeter than the first landing of the DP Extra. That thing settled down and was picture perfect even in the 15mph halfway-crosswind.

The plane flys great but has some pretty bad pitch to the belly in KE. I'm gonna make some adjustments, setup a couple mixes and try to fly it again tonight before our club meeting.

The BME44 ran great but it could use a much more efficent prop. That crap zinger just doesn't do a very good job. It does have unlimited vertical though...

Not sure on the total weight yet but will find out in the next couple weeks. Just guessing but I bet it's in the high 13's or low 14's. Either way it's much lighter than the 16lb 5oz DP Extra.

RCAV8OR, Roger from Northern Indiana, brought down a Wild Hare Giles, also a maiden flight and took video of both maiden flights. Hopefully he will post them in the next couple days.

Here's my ugly mug shot after two successful flights...

Hey wreck, would it be possible for you to get a decible reading on your plane? Also, if anybody has a zdz 50 or bme 50 could you give me a loudness reading at full throttle at the designated distance?

Thanks

I'm only swinging a 20" prop so I have plenty of clearance with the stock gear...

Well after moving my CG forward and setting up a couple mixes this is one FINE ASS flying machine. I put two more flights on it tonight and man was it a blast. The thing settles in so freaking nice for landings I swear you could take your hands off the sticks and let it land itself. I even got a little daring and tried a blender. All I can say is, OH MY GOD! It rolled, then went into a flat spin so freaking easy I couldn't believe it and this was on low rates too.

So what I'm trying to say is I hope my woman doesn't get jealous because I'm in love... LOL

What are people using for the pull-pull rudder setup on this plane, the rocket city 3" bellcrank and 3" horn? Seems a little on the large side. Also what are you using for the actual connectors and wire in the pull-pull, the swb stuff which is quite expensive?

I remember seeing Marcelo doing a flat spin, the most beautifull one I have ever seen, with a 31%(?). He was still walking when he did it, just to add to its beauty.

I'm very very lost on the installation of this 'wing screw'. After reading the sentence in the instructions about 20 times and looking at every buiding thread on the 27% I think this is what I need to do:

1) Drill a 12mm hole into the wing, at some point along the cardboard wing tube line such that it goes through the cardboard tube as well.

2) Insert the metal wing tube and place a 12mm dowel through the 12mm hole such that it touches on the metal tube and glue the dowel into place (not glueing it to the metal tube).

3) With the metal tube in place, drill a 4mm hole through the dowel into the metal tube.

4) Screw a 4mm screw into the dowl and through the metal tube to thread it, countersinking the screw into the wing.

Am I right???

WHOA!

Before gluing the phenolic socket into the wing I capped the ends of the socket by gluing on a piece of thin cardboard with CA. This helps keep the wing tube from protruding into the wing too far. I hope you did this...it will make lining the holes up in one wing half during field assembly much easier.

Check to make sure that the wing tube is long enough by putting the wings / fuselage / wing tube together. It should be slightly too long. That's OK, you will trim it later. If it seems too short then it's probably extending through the end of the socket (that is if you didn't cap the socket before gluing in place). If this is the case you will have a difficult time trying to line up the holes whenever you put the wing tube into the wing.

Make sure that the mark for the dowel hole is centered directly on the wing tube centerline, and roughly 1/2" or slightly more from the end of the wing tube.

Don't make the 12mm hole through the 'cardboard' (actually phenolic) socket tube! The dowel you glue in should be securely glued to the outside of the phenolic wing tube socket. The best way to create the hole is with a sharpened piece of brass tubing the same O.D. of the dowel you're using. It will make a clean cut through the sheeting and through the foam. You'll know when it hits the phenolic tube.

After the hole is created for the dowel pick the foam away from the phenolic tube so that the dowel will be able to be firmly glued to the tube. I created a radius on the bottom of the dowel so that it would fit snugly to the tube and then glued it in place with polyurethane glue.

After the glue cures for the dowel sand it flush with the wing sheeting. Insert the wing tube into the wing until it bottoms out on the socket tube caps that I HOPE you put on. Drill a pilot hole perpendicularly though the dowel, the socket tube, and the wing tube. Now drill the appropriate sized hole for the tap to make threads for whatever sized bolt you're using (I think I used 6-32). Tap through the dowel, socket tube, and the wing tube. If you like, you can countersink the dowel so that the wing bolt head is flush with the underside of the wing.

With the tube inserted and screwed into place in one wing half, assemble the wings to the fuselage. If you have to trim the tube, do so in small increments until the opposite wing half will butt up to the fuselage. When you have both wing halves butting up to the fuselage, drill and tap the hole in the other dowel / socket / wing tube.

I hope this makes sense!

I alas, did not put caps on the end of my phenolic tube, but I was careful to do some pre-measurements so that the phenolic tube goes just beyond the inner wing rib and I have plenty of phenolic left. Besides, I have no tools to shorten the metal wing tube so I need it to dig into the wing foam somewhat. Your directions make plenty of sense, they even make it sound easy, I'll get started on that tonight. Thanks!!

Quick question since my kit is still in the box.

In the years of flying I have seen many screws jump ship with this style mounting and the wings departing in flight. Is there enough ply on the root rib to put the wing bolt just behind the wing tube and into the wing from inside the fuse.

I will attempt to do this when building mine, Just looking for some input to keep my mind working.
