SNEAK PEAK: New 75-80cc YAK!!!!!!
Photos and info are just in from Chip. Not even on the website yet...
75-100cc engine
94 inch span
19-21 with a 75cc single
21-23.5 with a 100cc twin (Chip says way overkill)
I'm told this new Yak will be in stock sometime in February... Can you guess what 75cc engines might be available by that time???

The ailerons don't look very great either, but with time, they might grow on me.

Well you can bet DA won't announce a 75 til it's ready to ship...
This would also be a great plane for the ZDZ 80 & Super 80 as well as the BME 110...

No offence meant, but it looks like almost all the others i.e. extra with a round nose. Not really a Yak. Most manufacturers suffer from this situation.

Very nice looking plane! We need more planes designed around the 75cc-80cc singles.
Wonder what the price will be? This one will be on my strongly consider list. Can't wait
to see how it flies.

Chip seems very excited about the Yak and says he's wanting to make it the best offering to date.
I'd bet we'll see some video soon enough.

WOW,
Everyone is so negative on this plane. I personally think it looks nice.
The ailerons don't bother me. It will be interesting to hear from Chip
on why he designed them this way. Maybe it is a performance issue.
The ailerons are quite wide where it matters most for 3D (within the
prop wash) then taper off from there.

I agree with Columbo. I'll bet we start to see more planes sized for the 80cc range now that we have new offerings from ZDZ and 3W. Once DA comes out with theirs, maybe we'll see a shift of popularity from 50cc to 80cc. I hope the mfg's will plan ahead an allow for easy canister set ups, and even full length tuned pipes.

I think it's ugly.. And isn't most of Chip's stuff pretty pricey? I'll pass.. But I want the word on the DA 75 As soon as anyone hears anything solid.

Looks like all of the other ones.
But whats with blue covering on the bottom.
I would think they would have a more visible color.
If it come in light and flies right I'm on board.
What is that guy doing in that picture?
I don't think I wan't to know.

The straight trailing edge - tapered aileron is a really good setup.
It is structurally the best.
In 1995 ,when we did the basic setup for our big pattern planes,(EMC2) this was the planform.
We could fly em flat out and never a flutter and the wings were extremely light.
Our scratch built Caps also had the tapered setup
On foamies where you can get away with rectangular 40% ailerons , the forces are not so great but on bigger planes the tapered setup is best for weight/strength relationship.
As for being scale - that went out the window a long time ago.
Form follows function now.

I personally thing the ailerons look funny but the colour scheme looks nice. Is it just me or is every company producing a yak these days. [:@]

Companies generally produce what is popular to the masses. It makes
sense from a buisness perspective. Remember when caps were in, then
there were extras, then Edges. The Yak design is supposed to perform
well at both 3D and Precision. Until another design comes along that flies
better and is more popular, get used to seeing a lot of Yaks. The more
companies that build them the better. Competition offers us more choices
and drives down prices. Like I said before, I think we need more planes
designed around the 75cc - 80cc class engines. We are somewhat lacking
in this size range, and the cost to build a 80cc plane is only slightly higher
than the 50cc class. Maybe when DA starts production on its 75cc single,
we will see an explosion in planes designed around this engine size. Why
wait for DA though, 3W and ZDZ make excellent engines.
