RE: Hurley 35% Extra
I think Mike has it figured out. There are so many variables, however the only way to know what will really work is to go out and try it
Albert Einstein once designed a wing in theory! It did not work. If you study your history on that great man you will see!

The change isn't drastic at all. It's really almost imperceptible except, suddenly you start nailing the snaps and harriers seem to be a tad bit easier to do. I don't think it will be a real conscience difference but I think it's worth the effort.

RE: Hurley 35% Extra
I just finished building my Hurley extra. It weighs 29lb, but I had to add about a lb to nose to get it to balance. Is this typical?
It's got a DA100 in front. I built it pretty much according to plans. It is my first 35% plane, but I have built several planes in past - none this size.
I'll get a picture posted soon.
Thanks

Lee,
Mine is not done yet. I hope that I am lighter than that.... I have also never heard of anyone needing any nose weight. What is your setup like? Servos? Batts? Pull-Pull? ....

RE: Hurley 35% Extra
WOW... I didn't realise there could still be a thread about this plane. Looks like it's stood the test of time then hu? I'm from South africa and was looking around for a good 35% Extra. It's difficult to ship those big ARF's here so I was looking for a good kit or similar. I really am glad to have come across some of the info around Mike Hurley's Extra. Very informative articles as well!
I want to start biulding early in next year and have ordered the plans (THANK GOODNESS THEY STILL HAVE THEM!!) The problem is the shipping charges!! I have to pay shipping for every different supplier as well. Does anyone know how I can reduce the cost??? Perhaps there is a way of shipping the lot to a centralised point and then ship the whole lot off to South africa??
ANY help will be GREATLY appreciated.

RE: Hurley 35% Extra
I just reweighed mine for curiousity, its at 25.5#. Weighed it twice cause I didnt beleive it. Using BME 110, cannisters, smoke. Sheeted w/ contest balsa on stab and turtle decks, and a little heavier 6-8# I think on the wings. Snap is sluggish with the fat LE.

Howdy Boys...
I'm trying to track down a guy that never got the laser cut wood parts and the foam that I was selling a few years ago with Flying Thingz.... I talked to him a couple years ago and sent the foam.... then we sold the business and I lost his info.... I'll know the name if I see it... Trying to set it straight cause it's the right thing to do.... so if one of you guys know who is missing the mystery Hurley fuse... send me a PM.
Thanks!
P.S. Sweet plane. Worth building and flying. Mike did a great job. He is right on with the sharp LE too... (and a couple years ahead of his time)

"Click here for options concerning this ground-breaking series."

RE: Hurley 35% Extra
I bought my glass and canopy for my Hurley from Stan's Fiber Tech. Quality from Stan's was excellent. They are now under new ownership. The glass parts and the canopy are still listed on their website. Scroll down the list and it is listed under Mike Hurley. They have the 2 piece cowl, pants, gear fairings and conopy. There is also a listing for Mark Hurley. I think that may be a typo. The new company is called aerofibertech.

Is the original Hurley supplier Aero Glass out of Canada no longer making the glass and conopy. I know they are still in business as I just bought a glass cowl from Balsa USA for my 1/4 Cub and it is made by Aero Glass. Very nice quality.

Flying Foam has the foam cores.

I don't know of anyone that is currently laser cutting the wood kit. I hand cut 2 ply kits for future planes. My current Hurley though is built with one of the laser cut ply kits.
