3W 37.5% Yak 54
Hey guys,
Have found yet another plane that caught my eye... The 120" 3W Yak 54.
Anyone have experience with it? I'd like to know the good and bad things about it, mostly the only bad thing i hear is the cost, 3500 for an arf.
Looks to fly pretty good, Quique does pretty good with it lol, but he's Quique. Been researching, watched some vids, looks like no ban tendancies, it does all the 3D, does that patterny 'IMAC' stuff pretty good, and it's a yak! so it looks awesome in those rolling harriers.
http://3w-modellmotoren.com/video/clips/erwin_01.wmv
setup would be DA-150 and all jr-8611a's, running cannisters, just not sure which
What you guys think?
Thanks,
Scott

I dont know what a video has to do with the sale of an airplane....well i guess it does help, but im SURE Q Q could take any other model that cost less then the 3-W and fly it the same as the 1500 arf. its all in the pilot i think.

QQ is going to kit that model in wood for much less. Go to his site.
http://www.somenzini.com/graficoARF.htm I'd love one but not for the price of a nice jet.

Hey Mudsurfer,
I know it is a different plane but have a look at the Aviation Models 37.5% Yak. $1700 gets you a plane that is one of nicest quality wood arf I have seen to date...I'm basing this on the 35% I just received for review purposes. Don't confuse the 37.5% with the 40% either...the 37.5% was designed to be a killer competition plane. Plus you get about $100 worth of accessories with the plane AND you can have one by next week in a variety of schemes which look really nice. My understanding is that they have two containers a month on average. My experience in dealing with Aviation models has been very positive and I expect that the customer service is going to remain at a very high level. The plane is worth a look for sure. For the price you could "almost" outfit two Avaition Models Yak vs the 3W variety. Either way you have a killer plane!

Hey Scott,
I don't want to get into this or highjack your thread, but Sammy the owner (Aviation Models/TOC1) got ripped off by the person he trusted to run his warehouse. Sammy lost a bunch of money and the warehouse was emptied of inventory by the time Sammy got here from china. The first thing he did was make good on everything that he was owed to people. He absolutely puts his customers first and is only looking forward.
Aviation models is really out to provide a high quality plane and support it with first class customer service. Sammy is a really good guy and is always willing to answer any questions a customer has personally. Just give a call if there are any doubts.
Ok...sorry about the off topic rant. I just hate to see a really good guy like Sammy inadvertantly get thrown under the bus because of rumor and speculation.

$3900 may sound high, but look at it this way. You buy a 40% carden, some "pro" charges you $1500 to just frame it up, and another $1000 to finish it, and you are right at the same cost as the 3w plane.

sorry, i meant taht 3900 for the airbrushed scheme sounds low. If we got a kit, we would end up having it built, so it would be the same price.
Now to pick a scheme... hmmm....

Hey whats up,
I flew with you at the 3-d fly in New Jersey. You still flying that E.F. Yak? I have been thinking about the 3W Yak also, it's a very nice plane. I'm flying the QQ 85"er right now and may just wait for his version, but that's going to be a while. Looking forward to hearing your imput if you get the 3W.

Thats fine, to each their own. I personally like the 600+ rpm and 1-2 prop size advantage the 157 gives me over my old DA. Just giving you a hard time, I like my DA motors too. I tell you the one I am curious to see, is the new ZDZ super 160.

Maybe the "New Vinyl" should have the kid pi#@ing on you! Nothing wrong with 3W at all. DA is a really great engine, with great service, but so is 3W, and BME for that matter........Point is, pi#@ing on others products is stupid, when people on the forums "Bag" on others products just because they see their favorite pilots flying whatever it is that they use. There is a story behind why Q.Somenzini isnt using 3W engines, and its NOT because they suck!

Reliability is different to different folks. 14 3w motors, not one sent in for service, 7 or 8 DAs and 3 of them have been back. All good, all have some faults. There is another reason why QQ isnt flying 3W anymore besides reliability. Anyhow, not trying to jack up your thread, back to the yak.

BR289, calm down, take a deep breath geez lol
forgot that humor isnt allowed on forums, it was a joke.
I'm not against 3W or anything, i just fly what i like, i like DA motors, some people like 3W motors. I like the look of the yak, and it happens to be 3W, which is the awesome german engineering.

RE: 3W 37.5% Yak 54
Humor is fine.....I remember when I first signed up on RCU, and went looking for info on planes I was thinking about buying.....after reading threads on some of them, I came to the conclusion that I should look at others instead because of the "opinions" of others....I found that most of what people had said lacked any substance, and was crap. When people are looking at a particular model, or engine, or radio, servo, whatever....they can seriously be misled by alot of what people say on these forums.
There are a bunch of people that "Rag" on stuff just because it isnt what they use.....and when "Newbies" get into the hobby and eventually the forums, lets give them info they can really use..........
Thats all I meant in my last posts........
Later all...........
