Ohio RC Super/Pepsi Chipmunk
I am assembling an Ohio RC Pepsi Chipmunk. About ready to start covering want to complete the engine installation. I am using a Zenoah G38. I believe this is what they rec. for this plane.
It seems like this is going to be a little tough to balance. I have mounted the rudder and elevator servos to the rear and the throttle servo to the backside of the wing mount area. Any one with experience please let me know if you had to add tail weight or did you mount the battery further back in the fuselage. Did you have any problems mounting the cowl? Looks like a good portion will have to be cut away. What prop did you use? What are the flying characteristics of this plane. Thanks for the help.

I am just starting to build mine. I plan to use a g-38. Did you
get yours flying ? Any thoughts about performance etc...
Any help would be appreciated.
I am also looking for a fiberglass cowl, wheel pants and a canopy.
Do you have any ideas where I could find them?
Thanks.

Chipmunk.......a lil nose or tail heavy? Doesnt matter, they fly like a trainer (actually better I think) and will almost come to a stop before stalling!

Your in luck, there are a couple of kits that I know about made now. Actually there are 3. www.aerotech-rcmodels.com they sell a 90" WS superchipmunk for $320.
A guy by the name of Greg Morrison from Tennessee sells an 84" or so Superchipmunk. He makes the kits himself. I think they are $175 but include NO wood. You get everything except wood and hardware. His site is www.ucrcs.com/g&l.htm.
There is one more and I found it on accident. They are in the UK. There kit seems real nice. Here is their website. http://www.apacheproducts.co.uk/page5.html
Good luck and let us know what you decide.

Ohio RC Pepsi Chipmunk
Vanguard,
The OhioRC Pepsi Chipmunk is one of the very best models I've ever flown. The wood in that kit is light where needed and stronger elsewhere. The flight characteristics are outstanding - very aerobatic and fast but lands like a trainer. No bad tendencies. I had about 500 flights on mine when it was lost because of pilot stupidity. (was distracted when bolting on wing and didn't finish the job). Mine was powered by a Super Tigre 3000 and only weighed about 12 pounds. I installed a pull-pull rudder with the elevator servos at the rear. Suggest you beef up the rear of the fuse since it is quite narrow there. I flew it with an 18 x 6/10 zinger prop. No problem with either the cowl attach or with balance and the cg listed is right on. I'm also looking for a new canopy and cowl since I plan to build another from the old plans. Good luck!

Hi ,
I have built 2 Ohio RC Chipmonks. I have put the servos in the tail on both. Even with a OS120 or a MOKI 135 the planes have all come out nose heavy. I suspect you will have no choice in putting lead in the tail. You can get replacement cowl from Aeroglass.
These are great flying planes!!! The semisymetrical variable profile wing works even better than the manufacturer says! I would consider moving the tank from behind the firewall to the center of the winw spar.
Enjoy the plane

Thats the correct number for Aeroglass. I ended up getting two cowls from him. Very reasonably priced. As you can see when I started this thread I was assembling the kit. Since then I have put many many flights on it. Flies very nice and looks good in the air. The G38 gas engine is perfect for this plane. It is a little nose heavy but it seems to have no affect on it. This combination is very economical to run and sounds realistic in the air. I am using and 18x10 prop. Aerobatics with it are scale and I get a lot of compliments on this plane. Even makes my flying look good.

Has anyone tried the newer, lighter, more powerful 2.4's on the market on an Ohio R/C 'Munk?
I just happen to have a NIB Pennzoil chipmunk, Ohio R/C, with an extra cowl, that I am thinking about one of the newer 2.4's.
Any experiences with one, would be appreciated - the only one I flew, had a Saito 1.50 on it and it did well - one of the nicest flying planes I have ever flown, convinced me to search far and wide to get one...
Thanks in advance.

Instead of a G-38, you may want to consider using a 3w-24. That engine has the same power as a g-38 but weighs about 1/2 as much. It turns a 18 x 10 around 72-7400 rpms.
It is a wonderful engine, I have 16-18 of them in my university research fleet.

Hi Vanguard and rcav8tor,
Vanguard,
Long time, no see. I was wondering if you ever got your Ohio RC Pepsi chipmunk finished and flying and I see that you have. Great Job ! I bought the extra Super Chipmunk cowl and graphics package off you a couple years back down at the Fairmount exit.
Rcav8tor,
Remember me? I traded that Ohio RC Super Chipmunk kit to you for the Ohio RC Extra 300L kit. I was wondering if you had started on the kit yet, looks like maybe you are just starting it. The extra cowl and the graphics package came from vanguard, who is also here in Indiana. I haven't had a chance to start on the big Extra 300L yet, I've been busy with a few other kits. I hope to get started on it this winter.

Jon, good to here from you again. Sorry to hear you got rid of the chipmunk. Wish I had know as I would like another one. Mine flies as good as it looks. I have received tons of compliments on it. Glad I went with the the G38. I went to your home page. I see you are in to the coroplast combat planes too. Been doing that a couple of years myself. By the way your dads 232 looks great.
