RE: Which R/C flight simulator you guys use?
G3 is a fine piece of software for a videogame programmer to have come up with.
I still use aerofly pro wich had been out for over a year when G3 was realeased. Pro still beats G3 in realism hands down!
PRO G3:
better crafics
more bells and whistles (Video game obstacle courses)
PRO AFP:
Came out first with the ability to really simulate 3d beyond stall flight characturistics. Reall well done with th physics.
Pro AFPD:
Updated version of AFP. Photorealistic grafics with same, if not slightly improved physics!
Pro XTR:
The graphics are second to non! I keep hearing myths about planes you can load up that feel really realistic, but nobody seems to have these plane on board when I've tested out XTR. I must say that thier helis seem very realistic. Fixed wing, not so much.
That's my experience..
I use ARP the original and the simulation is second to non, obviously there are ones with better graphics, but that;s not why I fly it.. If you run the sim at about 120% it's very realistic!

AFPD here....AFPD rocks. Awesome graphics, the best flight performance. LONG list of available aircraft and heli's. Get the SIMCOM cable and use your own tx though....the aerofly radio sucks big time.

AFPD flies better than my Telemaster. G3 flies more realistically and will better you as a pilot. AFPD will only help you learn the basics, but G3 will give you a good understanding of what to expect from a real plane.

Oh and BTW, G3 multiplay ROCKS!!

you said it 50%. g3 multiplayer rocks. i like being able to do it on g3 then after i can do it on g4 i am almost assured that ic an do it at the field. because g3 is a little harder than real life so it makes you a better pilot. ryan

I dont know what planes you've been flying on AFPD, or what your set-up was, but I can tell you from experience AFPD SMOKES G3 in realistic flight performance. If you flew the demo in the hobby shop, they probably had it sim timed down to 60% for all the newbies. Run it at 3D rates and 120% sim time, and you'll find out just how "real" it really is.

G3 is just a playstation videogame. All frills and no thrills.

its funny to watch AFPD guys try to fly the stock yak on g3, its like they never flew before. If you want to get better at flying in the real world, G3 is the only way to fly.

RE: Which R/C flight simulator you guys use?
look at that aerofly video for example. from just watching that video i could pick out a few things that are completely unrealistic. for example look at that flat spin. it was desending so slow that if someone who praticed them on aerofly pro deluxe would crash a plane because aeorfly was not good enough to learn flat spins on. aerofly might be good for learning to fly, but after that, it cannot help you. i haev aerofly and g3 and i don't use aerofly at all. aeroflyflies way too light, it flies like a hole bunch of foamies and the fomaies don't fly like fomaies, they fly like kites. you cannot do true 3d on aerofly. g3 is the best for 3d and if you are trying to learn how to do 3d manuevers g3 is the way to go. if your trying to learn how to fly aerofly is the way to go. ryan

Ryan Archer,
That's why I prefer XTR. Kick the speed up to 120% and it's very realistic (read difficult), and things like flatspins are not easy to get right. The Hover/torque roll training is very cool, great practice. Let's you select which controls you want to manage, and auto controls the ones you don't work. So, you can just run rudder, rudder/ele, etc. It's neat. There are a lot of "artificial" planes in XTR too, particularly the downloads... but there are a few that are very real and really keep you on your toes.

RE: Which R/C flight simulator you guys use?
Actually, I have flown G3...MANY times...and Aerofly, Dave Brown, FMA, Reflex...I still say aerofly is the best for planes. Reflex is tops for heli pilots.
Bear in mind that a sim is not a replacement for real stick time, thats why they call it a simulator. NO sim will ever be completely realistic, despite GP's best efforts and mis-advertising of G3 as "Real Flight"....HA
If your looking for true real flight charectoristics...you wont find them in any sim.
