World Models 33% Cub ARF
It may be sacreligious, but World Models is offering a 1/3 scale J-3 as an ARF! I got the huge box yesterday and I needed my trailer to get it home.
Inside were a pair of wing panels that look like surfboards and a fuselage that is very nicely done, except that it does not have the "scale-like" center top longeron that runs from the fin to the top skylight.
Oh yes, the skylight. It's a oval shaped window that looks more like a porthole than a window. That may get a little modification.
And the fin covering is not faired into the fuselage covering. Oh, bother...
The covering is called Toughlon, a World Models product that shrinks and handles a lot like UltraCote or Oracover, but has a more dense finish.
It seems to hide surface marks and wood grain better. Some bubbles and wrinkles, but easily shrunk and stuck back down.
The wheels are the correct diameter but very narrow, when compared to the scale width. A set of DuBro's are on the shelf waiting for a job.
Everything else looks good, and they even give you a 51 ounce gas tank set up for gasoline. How long can you fly at quarter throttle on 51 ounces of gas?
I will try to get some photos of the parts but so far my wide angle lens isn't wide enough.
BTW, all the parts that will fly with the plane weigh right at 19 pounds, so add in the weight of a G-62 (just happen to have one) and some servos, batteries and a receiver and we're looking at 28 to 29 pounds. With almost 3000 square inches of wing, this will be a real floater
Here's the shipping box and me.

Show off! [sm=48_48.gif]
I saw that a couple days ago while sufing the World Models website. Looks cool. I just happen to have a GT-80 twin here that would haul it around with power to spare.
I always swore I'd NEVER have a Cub, but this looks really cool. I guess part of it is that the plane is so BIG . I'd love to put that sucker up and putter around on a Sunday afternoon. Would be a great tow plane for gliders or banners at the Big Bird events.

Hey Dick,
Would this plane fly OK with a GT80?
I have looked at this plane several times but couldn't make my mind up.
It would look sweet in a smoking flat spin................

The guy that runs World Models says it'll fly fine with a 50cc gas engine.
They show some sort of a twin in the manual, maybe 3W or DA, but you can chose for yourself.
I just happened to have a G-62 on the shelf.
One of my friends has a scratch built 33% Cub built from Nelitz plans and he flys it just fine on a 40cc single cylinder gas engine.
It's slow, but then again, it's a Cub!

A full scale Cub buzzed our field last weekend. It's one of the club members who is also a licensed pilot. He comes around now and then about 1000' up. He got down low and slow last weekend for a fly-by. Maybe 400' above the runway. Just puttering along. It was cool to see the cylinder heads sticking out of the cowl as he droned by at about 60--70MPH.
Before you get all excited--nobody was flying at the time. He did 2 passes. First pass was up pretty high. I'd guess he was looking for models, but nobody was flying at the time. So, he circled around and came down low-n-slow for a nice pass and wiggled the wings for us.

RE: Worle Models 33% Cub ARF
I am just about done with my World Models cub that i recieved a couple weeks ago. Putting a FPE 4.2 up front. Company recommends a gt 80 or similar engine. I would think the g 62 would fly it fine. I think the quality is excellant and the control surfaces and hinges are allready expoxied in for you . I also had at one time the Model tech 30% cub . The thing i like about this cub is the fact that rudder and elevator servos mount in the rear for easy slop free hookup.

I received the kit a week ago and have it on the gear ready for the engine. I am very impressed with the quality and the completeness of the kit. Even the wing struts come 100% ready to use, the landing gear was ready just to attach to the fuselage.
Is it perfectly scale? No
But that is OK with me. We are going to use it to haul 3 large r/c parachute guys up to altitude.
I am going to put a 3W-80 on it so power will not be a problem. If I were not going to haul 15lbs of parachute guys, I too would use a G62 on it.

Mine is just about ready to go, except for the Tru-Turn Cub Hub and the replacement tail wheel.
26.75 pounds so far with a G-62 and it balances exactly where thay said it should.
Look closely at the piece of the self-stick graphics that is sent with the Cub.
I bet y'all thought that ARF meant Almost Ready to Fly....

Looking good Dick i am trying to get mine completed by the 16th that is our clubs big bird fly in but i dont think i am going to make it. I am really liking this arf , i think it is a winner and when they catch on you will see a big demand for them. I think my FPE 4.2 weighs around the same as your 62 maybe a little liter . Glad to hear it balances out ok .DId you put servos in the back as planned ?? I have one Hitec 945 for rudder and two digitals 5645s for elevators.

RE: World Models 33% Cub ARF
A buddy of mine just maidened his. He originally had a G62 in and would have needed almost 2lb's of ballast to get it to balance. Instead of adding dead weight, he slapped my old 3W 85 in it. He ended up still needing a little ballast, though. It flies great and believe it or not, torque rolls rather well LOL! He had to hack the cowl up pretty bad but it looks pretty cool with the twin cylinders sticking out. It flies like a big ol' butterfly just a few clicks above idle. It looks incredible in the air; almost indistinguishable from the real thing. I'll get some pics this weekend if he's out again.

RE: World Models 33% Cub ARF
That is what i have been concerned with also is where my fpe 4.2 will fall into the cg range . I think the fpe is around the same weight as the 62. I guess i will use the biggest battery for ign i have and try and mount my receiver batts as far forward as possible. I will be using 5 cell 1950s FAUP batts from radical, 2 of them . Also how far back can you go on cg without the plane being tail heavy. I just wish i had some more time to get this bird flying. Mr. Pettit let us know where yours balanced out to ok with the 62 on it. I am glad to hear it flys good , thanks for the info THE fpe weighs in at 88 0zs which is just a little over 5 lbs. 10 ozs. Not sure what the stock 62 weight is.???

You could Google something like "world models 33% cub" and find that info.
Or I could give you the web page-

RE: World Models 33% Cub ARF
I wouldnt advise it because the man i talked to at World models said at least a 5 lb motor . Also the mounting of the servos in the rear is so much easier and no slop hookup compared to the servos in the center.
