Good looking install!
What size (diameter) is your stab tube? Need a replacement for my AM Yak (it's a 12.5mm/.489in.)
Thanks in advance,
Jon

Jon595...
The stab tube is 10mm x 320mm. Doesn't look like it will fit your needs. You might try Troy Built Models. They have that kinda stuff.
Thanks
Barry

My experience has been that the DA 50 ignition does not consume much battery.
I use a 1400 Mah nicad and generally charge 300 to 400 Mahs after 4 to 5 flights.

This plane is coming along nicely. I have the following left to do:
Mount rudder servo and pull/pull wires (usually a hassle, I begrudging this one)
Mount the landing gear (20-30 minutes)
Mount/cut the cowl (2 hours)
Drill and mount the prop.
Break in the DA 50 engine
Inspect/trim the plane before the pre flight. (2 hours)
I'm thinking Thursday. But I should be able to fly then.
Thanks
Barry
PS: My room is getting cluttered...what to do.

Barry, if the DA 50 runs well after warming it up, just fly it. They don't need a break in. Just no WOT for long periods, especially on the ground. It may be rich on the low end (if it hesitates and has to clear out the fuel, it's rich). If it will transition ok, just fly it. The low end on mine was way too rich. Just the screw closest to the engine is the low end needle. Enjoy. Aren't these things a lot of work?

JoeAirPort...
Yeah, I figured the DA didn't require too much break in. I figured I'd run it maybe 10 minutes, if it runs, I'll fly.
Steve is good with tuning the engines and he'll help with that.
You didn't look at the planes in the closet. (picture on the right)
Thanks

RE: airwild extra 260 29% who's got one?
Installed the rudder, rudder servo and pull/pull cables last night. Wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. AirWild supplies a very neat bolt/screw that is drilled through the center that's makes hooking up the cable a snap. It's simple. As I looked at it I felt somewhat nervous that it won't hold but I don't have any reason to think that it won't. I'm just not used to it. It makes for a very tidy installation though, and fast.
I hooked up all my servos to the receiver and mounted the receiver as well. I also spent an hour triming all the surfaces and making sure the hinges all move in the correct direction. It was late so I didn't fire up the DA, but I'll probably do that tonight.
I need to mount the landing gear and mount the canopy and cut/mount the cowl.
Just couldn't wait any longer on the weight estimated so I heaped everything into the fuse and through the thing up onto my highly accurate scale. I measured 14lbs 15ozs. This will change slightly with the finished product. I have to cut the cowl, for instance and also so of the items (wheels) were in their bags. I fully feel that it will be slightly under 15lbs ready to fly. But I'll post an exact weight in a day or two. The Slimeline pitts style muffler adds about 4.5 ozs.
That's my update for today. More soon.
thanks
Barry

RE: airwild extra 260 29% who's got one?
To all...
With my weight at nearly 15 lbs to get "3D Performance" from this plane I will need to develop about 21lbs thrust with the DA 50. Does anybody have an opinion on whither or not the DA will put out those kinds of thrust numbers at my elevation. I'll be using a NX 22x8 prop in the beginning. I can't find thrust ratings on this engine.
Thanks
Barry

RE: airwild extra 260 29% who's got one?
Man...
I'd love to see mid 20s for thrust numbers. My elevation kills the thrust but my EVO 45GX is giving me a hearty 19lbs with 21x8. Everyone seems to tell me the DA will do much better. To get the same thrust/weight ratio I have with the EVO I'll need a minimum of 21lbs thrust. If I can get more I'll be happy. I've got a bigger prop, 22x8 and the hope the DA is better than the EVO.
You have given me hope and something to look forward to.
thanks

RE: airwild extra 260 29% who's got one?
The DA-50, well broken in and with a good quality prop could probably go up to 25lbs. I've heard higher figures but I tend to doubt that. By good quality prop I mean at least PT Models, NX, XOAR, VESS or Mejzlik at 23x8. I know people who run 24x8 on the engine but I don't know their thrust numbers...
It pulls an 18lbs Lanier Extra 330 out of hover going vertical up, with a 23x8 Mejzlik, without much effort (sea level)...
I think 22x8 is only used for break-in when oil content is 1:32.

RE: airwild extra 260 29% who's got one?
She's all done!!!!
Very nice looking plane even if I do say so myself.
I haven't ran the engine yet but everything else is done including the balance.
Weight, ready to fly less fuel = 14lbs 14ozs.
Wing loading is 25.00 oz/sq ft
I didn't use the wheel pants, but did add a Slimline muffler which added 4.5 ozs. I saved two ozs by going to 15oz fuel tank but probably added an oz or two by going to slightly heavier servos.
There whould be some ways to lighten this aircraft if you wanted to. Super lite tires -3oz, carbon fiber wing tube -4oz, mini sero on throttle -1 oz, and maybe carbon fiber landing gear - approx 4ozs. So with more money and extra work it would be possible to fly this plane at 14lbs even. Mine will stay 14lbs 14ozs.
Here's some pictures.
Thanks

Steve...
If you're out there...do you want to go fly with me tomorrow and try this thing out? I could be ready to fly at about 10:33am if you are available.
Let me know.
Thanks

Digger44...
No....I hadn't even thought about any graphics. The kit doesn't come with any but now that I think about it I really should put something on it. It does kinda look "bare". Any suggestions?
Thanks

Nice job Barry !! I'd get a DA white logo graphic to put on the top of the engine cowling. You could also get some black Extra 260 graphics made to go on the white of the wing. Put Extra on one side and 260 on the other. Bad Brad Graphics has stuff on RCU market place, I think that DA logo is on there. He could make you the Extra 260 graphic, he's a great guy to deal with. Just tell him what you want. The planes look way cooler with graphics even though yours is already decorated pretty nice with that covering.
