It's Back.
OK,It's back in the air! Flying better than ever. Mounted gear to fuse, repaired cowl and touched up the paint. All repairs made by my sixteen year old. I'm really proud of him Great job Chris.

The CG is a Dave Patrick design and is basically regarded as a classic...quite ahead of it's time when it came out. Very light weight construction...what can I say? Party on boys... it's a fine ride.

Taken outdoors with better light, only a few more things to do:
1. I'm waiting on fiberglass for the cowl and bellypan
2. Mount the switch
3. Stripe the fuse
4. Stars. I can't seem to connect with the local vinyl guy, but I'm working on it.
Got the OS 1.60 mounted, temporarily with a Dave Brown spinner. Prop is the Zinger 18x10.

This is a computer-scanned picture of an instrument panel. I printed it on photo paper and cut it to size. Not bad for an easy way to make a panel.

The alleged pilot/builder's wife. Can't you tell how happy she is to be hanging onto this thing.
The scheme isn't EXACTLY to the plane I was following, but I like the way it turned out.

The elevator servo is mounted with its bottom in the turtle deck. I put in hatches in both rear openings to get to the servo and the bellcrank.

First flight
After the plane spent the day with Wgeffon, we met at the field. Wayne had set up the plane exactly the way it needed to be. Maiden flight was awesome. Serious power and incredible stability. Landed and ironed down some covering. I have to point out that this plane sat in the sun for an entire day in June and the covering started lifting off. I thought I had covered every part. I found out on the second flight that wasn't the case.
The plane flew well for a minute or two then there was a rattling during the passes. Found that one of the stripes on the left wing had lifted, creating an airbrake. Took a lot to keep the plane level. Brought it around to land and in traditiona CGM Sukhoi fashion, the gear ripped off the wing, destroying the belly pan. The wing mount fell out as well. Really minor damage considering what it could have been. I probably flared a little early but with the "airbrake" on the left wing, I just wanted to get it on the ground.
Some repairs are underway and this one will be ready to go again.

This is such an awesome plane. It is really too bad about the landing gear. I even modified mine and moved it to the fuse and I am using 1/4 x 20 nylon bolts and it still gets ripped off. Oh well, since it flies so well I dont mind making the repairs.

Gear
I tested the OS 1.60 on the same plane, only it had been built when the kit was new back in the early 90's. The gear had already been ripped out so I moved them to the fuse. When I used the right 1/4x20 bolts, I never pulled the gear out. In fact, they were still mounted when the plane went in dead stick after running out of fuel during a 10 foot high hover.
It'll be back together shortly, I hope.

What were you doing in a ten foot high hover with no fuel?
