I'm jealous! I've had good results removing blind nuts/t-nuts by screwing in the screws (half way in) heating them with a soldering gun and the tapping out the screw and nut with a hammer. The heat will soften the glue.

Thanx for the comments

Everything in most ARF's originiates in the far east is why. Very few ARF's and even kit makers source hardware from the US but a few do.

www.microfasteners.com

Everything you need. They even sell a modeler's assortment.

The plane looks VERY similar to the WH 41% Extra (even more than I thought being from the same factory)! Mine should be here Tuesday... I hope mine is as nice as yours!

The design, I inderstand, is a collaborative effort to some degree with Wild Hare and does come from the same factory. Bill put his touches and tweaks on the 50% design and Tom assited in getting him hooked up for manufacture.

Well.. that's what I heard anyhow...

Thanx for the good words Ward. I am hoping to get it flying ASAP. I am waiting for some hardware from Bill and then i will start completing it. I assume upon having all items needed to complete it, it will take me 3-5 days to finish it and get it airborne.
I already have some problems with our National AMA (Greek Version though) as nobody will insure it! If it is more than 15 kilos then the Civil Aviation authority has to approve the design and construction..And as i happen to be unlucky to live in Greece (The country with nice girls and weather where nothing on the public sector works!). Strikes every Monday, rude emploees etc, i see no progress on that era.

There is a good thing though. Due to the mess that we live in i can fly uninsured...

And yes Video will be my priority

I just saw this thead for the first time and have a couple of offerings.

Wing Bags: Look into a couple of oversized sleeping bags. They may do the trick.

Engine selections: Check into Herbrandson engines. They have a two cylinder 280 that may fit the need. RCIGN will have the information for a point of contact. The 280 is much stronger than the 3w-240.

Hi silverserfer.

Thank you for your inputs..I will do a background check on theses engines (never heard of them though!). RCIGN?? I assume a member on the forum? It will be important to see some comments on performance, reliability costs etc..

Sleeping bags is a prety good solution..It is just that the colourings they stock here in Greece are crap!

Thanks again

I worked with Bill to help him get the plane built. He set out to reproduce his original purple and white 50% Edge, but the plans for that plane were hand drawn and it would have been a large effort to convert them to CAD which is mandatory for factory production nowadays.

I suggested just having a new plane scaled up from our 41% Extra. Since it was already in Cad format this was a simpler project and had the benefits of all of our newest features like pocket hinges and a cowl ring, etc. They used Bill's cowl and canopy molds and all his dimension changes, he did all the testing and other work.

As they used to say in the old shake-n-bake commercials, "an' I hepped".

Manos, go with the 3W 275, don't bother with the Herbie, not saying it's bad, it's more of a race engine than what we need. And check with Caroline at carden-aircraft.com, she is making wing bags for this beast, Bill should have them available from her on his site soon.

Ok i found the details. Not many on their website but..

1. 28 vdc input for the ignition ??? Oups! That will complicate things i assume....It smells 8s2p...

2. What about RF emmisions? I am an operations manager for EADS in Greece and it happens that i also fly Target Drones/ UAV's (Jets & prop/s). Frequencies on these planes and also the avionics are well protected from RF emmisions due to the importance of keeping it in the air trouble free. And i am afraid that due to the production of these engines for this applications (UAVS/UTVs) Rf issues may arise on the models and RX's we use...I do not know...Lets see the response from the manufacturer.

I have already emailed rc ignitions for some extra info.. oh! I almost forgot => 280 replacement is now 290cc!

Thanx!

That 280 is used quite a bit as UAV power plants. Dependable, strong, excellent throttle response, and the ignition can be changed. Check with RCIGN for more on that. Most people only meet up with Herbies at the races, but by no means are they primarily a race engine.

Hi Guys. It took me some time to go online due to business obligations...Been flying jets at the North arctic for nearly a month and then back to Greece with more work..blah blah...
So, i finally decided to go with the EVO 300 as i never had a 4cylinder engine before! I received it some tiime ago but never had the chance to mount it...Tonight i did some work just to see how it is going on the firewall....

ENGINE
EVO 300cc => Magnesium Version

I LIKE

1. It is Fu beautifull!
2. Excellent machining
3. It has very good materials all around. From the Allu hub upto the anodised screws.
4. It has Electronic Ignition that works even with nine (9) volts! Straight on Li-pos
5. The clearance is better than i thougt. Even though it is longer from the 3W-275 it leaves around 15mm from the end of the cowling...

I DISLIKE

1. It needs more work than i thought to make it flyable. The manifolds arent ready to mount as they need some treatment (Heating/Extruding) prior screwing
2. The manual is clear, but from the beggining you realise that you have to put some good hours to have the engine properly converted to suit the model.
3. The cylinders are nearly touching eachother...Very close, but there must be a reason...THese people seem to know ehat they are doing.
4.Big engine...Heavy...and there is no Mount template in the manual in order to use it for the firewall drilling..

Overall
Excellent piece! It will take around a day in order to make some mounting for the canisters and also a day more in order to reinforce the firewall. This is needed due to lack of space on the side of the firewall "lip". See photo. I had to cut a section of the side of the front engine mount.

Manos,

There is a large thread in Fly_ing Gi_ants about this plane. One of the owners is using the EVO also. All of them are coming out nose heavy so you may want to check this thread.

http://www.fly_inggi_ants.com/forums...ad.php?t=12576

Tim

Remove the dashes from the name. When I typed correct spelling the name came up as ******. Must have something to do with the website.
