RaidenTech/NitroPlanes Yak 50cc (Build).. Maybe?
I just got the raidentech.com 50cc Yak. $350 shipped (California to Virginia)... UPS beat the crap out of the outerbox. It was double boxed. The inner box had a big NitroPlanes.com sticker. LOL!! Well, opened the box, and they seem to be using metal pushrods to support the cardboard inside the box... BAD IDEA GUYS!!... One of the rods came loose, and punched a hole the size of the quarter into one of my wing panels... [:@].. I'll just patch it... Here goes first impressions.
IT SEEMS TO BE BUILT BY CHINA MODEL PRODUCTS>>> For better or for worse
Appearence: Good covering, no wrinkles, and a test with the heat gun seem to shrink about like Ultracote.
Size: Big control surfaces, and the airframe seems to be very scale for a Yak.
Weight: I will weight the components, but it's built very lights. Similar the SDModels Yak construction.
Likes: Robart like hinge points, Big ailerons, two bolts per wing, short linkages, canopy already cut, and mounted to hatch, multiple positions for pull-pull rudder servo, covering, color scheme, paint on the cowl, and the cute little wheel spats.
Dislikes: Cowling attachment. I will add my own mounting blocks. Hatch attachment uses tabs, not dowels. I will add some carbon fiber dowels for better strength. Hardware is mostly useless to me. The control horns look like something for a .60 size sport model. I would even use them on my profiles. Tailwheel is nice, but looks heavy to me, It will work on a big scale cub, or T-craft. LOL!
Overall, I'm pleased. I think it's going to be a good flyer. Here's my setup:
Evolution 45, pitts muffler
5 JR 4721's
Nicads
2 switches
No carbon at this point.
I will post some pics tonight in this thread, and I will try to weigh everything.

Looks good Dennis. For the price it would be a fun plane.
Could you measure the actual wingspan, wing area, and fuse length for us? I don't really trust the webpage information.
Thanks
Brett

Got a little done last night. Drill the firewall for the Evolution 45, with 38mm standoffs it fits perfect. Glued in the hinges. I'm waiting on some Rocket City horns, etc..
Here's some weights (my batteries went bad in the digital scales, I will have more weights tonight).
Right and Left Stab/Elevator with hinges 4.3oz each.

I really dig that color scheme!! I know rich model also produced a new yak as well......and that color scheme looks really cool to. I wish some of the other outfits like SD-models , areotech , QQ and others would try some different looking schemes like this. It's kind of nice having a plane that doesn't look exactly like same. Good looking airplane for sure.

Wing Measurements: Root: 21inches Tip: 9 inches WingSpan: 86.5inches
21+9=30 30/2=15 15*86.5=1297.5
A little dissappointed in the wing area.... 1297.5
I found a couple of ribs broken inside the damaged wing. I can fix that pretty easy. Each wing will get some extra CA.

I have fixed the shop heater, so I'm getting back on this thing.
Reinforce the hatch/canopy - they use tabs instead of dowels. I added some tri-stock behind the tabs. It's strong now.
Wing/Stab tube - I can't thrust them. I'm going to order some CF tubes from Troybuiltmodels.
Mounted the Evolution 45 - it fits perfect with the 38mm standoffs from Horizon.
Most of the hardware is a joke.
I'm going to start on the wings tonight.

This plane is OK, just check it over good.
I had ribs in one wing broken, and the front dowel and rib broken on the other wing.
Just fix breaks, cracks and loose pieces and it will be fine.

RE: RaidenTech/NitroPlanes Yak 50cc (Build).. Maybe?
Mine is finished and will get flown on Thursday. I'll get some video.
It was a challenging arf to build.
The hardware is for a 60 size ARF... Throw it away... or use it a profile or something.
1) I had to make blocks to mount the cowling. I furnished the the 4-40 screws to hold the cowling.
2) I had to cut 1 inch off the wing tube... It was to long from the factory, no big deal.
3) I had to re-enforce the hatch area... especially the tabs that hold it down in front... It is pretty difficult to mount the hatch, because of the crazy tubes you must insert the screw into...
4) The wings fit tight on the tube, and in the wing saddle... I had to sand some on the anti-rotation pins... I'm not going to use the four bolts to hold the wings on.... I'm using my own bolts in the back, and put a pin thru the front anti-rotation pins.
5) I used my own tail wheel.... I couldn't figure out the one with the kit.
Positive stuff. Nice covering, light build, and perfect 3D throw range on the control surfaces.... This is the first ARF Yak that I didn't have to trim the elevator halves to get full up, and down 50degree throws. Everything fits (some to tight), and everything is square, and straight.... They didn't use a bunch of glue, so I used CA+ where ever I could reach....
Mine weighes 15lbs 7oz... Evolution 45GX, JR 4721's all around, and a 14oz fuel tank.
I'm not using the wheel pants.

Thank you both, frieshoo and F1race79 for your infos. that make me feel a little bit better and I will take my time and change the hardwares and some that you have done to it. Oh; by the way how about servos ? You guys using dual servos for aeleron ,rudder and elevetor? I almost forgot to ask.and the book tell you what kind servo and torque you suppose to use? Thanks again guys.
P.S I have built the Goldberg Sukhoi 75" kit and this is will be my first and last for the kit and it flown so good and has no bad habbit and landing is a breeze. So this 50 cc Yak will be my first gasser and over 80" span and it's over my range that why I am so worry about it and it flies good right guys? I hope. I will be back when I start put it together and will bother you again. Thanks again guys.....

Use a good servo... If you are on a budget, get some Hitec HS5625's or HS625's... two for ailerons, and two for elevators... Get a Hitec HS635MG for the rudder....
I used JR 4721's, because I had them free at the time.
The manual sucks.
Here's some pics.

It should fly great, and it will land very easy, and very slow.
The model is light (less than 16lbs), with more wing area than several good flying 50cc ARFs out there.
My only concern is the wing tube... It's a little thin, comparing it to my WildHare Edge wingtube.... which also fit's the Yak... I might just use the WH tube on the Yak maiden flight.

RE: RaidenTech/NitroPlanes Yak 50cc (Build).. Maybe?
frieshoo,
I've got a couple of questions for you. First, with regard to your elevator servos. On the right side (not pictured) are you connected to the elevator from the top of the servo, opposite of the left side from the bottom? That looks like something you might have done if you didn't have a radio capable of using two channels, one for each elevator, like the Futaba 7CAP like mine. If that is indeed what you've done, do you have equal throws on each elevator half? I can never get it perfect when I do it that way and wonder what the secret is. Another option is to use a reverser but I hear the potentiometers float around causing misaligned elevator halves.
Second, with regard to the wing tube. If you wouldn't use it on your maiden flight, why would you use it on subsequent flights? If you don't trust it, you don't trust it. Does anyone have any experience here with this seemingly thin tube to help him out? I guess since you can't fly both planes at the same time, you could swap tubes between flights, but that would get old quickly if you fly both planes on the same day.
Thanks,
Gary
p.s. could you take a few more pics of the elevators to get a better idea of your setup and the size of them?

RE: RaidenTech/NitroPlanes Yak 50cc (Build).. Maybe?
Gmoney,
I have a CF Tube for My WH Edge.... I still have the spare tube that came with the WH kit...
I have decided not to use the stock tube that comes with the Yak. The WH Edge stock aluminum tube seems more rigid (and heavier), so I'm just going to use the WH tube from the start.
My elevator setup is 1 inch aluminum arms on the servos, and 1 1/4 inch Robart Heavy Duty arms on the surface. I have 45 degrees down elevator, and 50 degrees up elevator on my throw meter. The rod is 4-40 inside a CF tube, with lock nuts. Both arms point down. Don't worry about the steep angle when center. A good servo will hold this with ease.
