A look down the tail... lloks really good to me! Clean, well fit and glued. The turtledeck is sheeted foam (even it has lightening holes like the 87" did)

Former 1 is lightened and covered and so is the engine box top. THe engine box and firewall look quite sturdy.... strap some power on there!

Since the EF 88" will use hingepoint type hinges... I pulled out my own Robarts and dipped the knuckes in melted vaseline... I saw this here on RCU (sorry guy can't remember who to give credit... but GREAT idea) and LOVE it. It works great and is faster than "smearing" it onto the knuckles.
I'll be ready to hinge as soon as the plane arrives...
For some reason I never look forward to hinging and getting it done early will push me past this stage...

Yep.. bend it full 90 degrees and dip the knuckle in... work it back ad forth, then I bend it the other way and dip again just to be sure...

Minimal hardware needed here! Seems like I'm missing something... but I sure can't think of what...
I initally had a heart attack thinking they factory forgot the rudder horns... but after counting... is seems there are TWO sets of the single sided horns for the rudder... I think I actually like this better...

I will do the Gorilla glue too. one it before exactly this way, it works great...
The cotton swab needs to be WET to get moisture in the pore of the wood...it draws the glue in.
Monday for my Yak. THats' OK. I am going to savor the build.
Snow is almost gone.

Yep... I remove most of the cotton off a swab and daub it into the hole... it kicks the glue better and as you said, helps draw the glue into the pores of the wood...

I forgot to mention anothe thing I pre-did earlier today... plumb the tank.
I'm going to use a 3 line in a 16oz DuBro tank... soldered the fuel barbs onto the lines to prevent slippage.
I lightly sanded the bottom of the tank and then CA'd a 1/2" foam pad to the bottom... this jelps keep the tank from sliding off the foam.

The stock gear is painted aluminum... looks nice... weighs 12.65 oz
JR John is looking into finding some REALLY light CF gear... but he's not sure it will work yet...
I did happen to have a set of CF gear from Graphtech RC that I got for a 102" Quique Yak...
Guess what? It's almost IDENTICAL in size and shape!
Guess that tells ya how BIG and sclae this bad boy is 88" having 102" gear
THe GRaphtec gear are 10.6 oz so there's only a 2 oz savings... I suppose they don't have to be that "thick" because they are holding up an 18.5 lb plane (max) while the QQ 102 is like 25-26 lbs...

I am sticking with the Alum gear. Need the give and bounce for the grassy bumpy field.
Maudib what size brass tubing are you using in the tank?? I like the bigger of the two sizes provided by the Sullivan gas conversion kit.
Hatch Latch mod???

I used the stock tubing (I only buy the DuBro conversion stopper) it's 1/8" I believe... has worked very well so far....
No Hatch latch mod on this one... it would need two one each side... it's just HUGE... it's designed to use just two screws near the back... and there are nice hardwood blocks in place so there won't be any issues with aligning them...

I think I'll just flat primer black mine out...
Ya know... once I deck this thing out... I might just wanna do something with the scale parts... that spat are NOTHING in weight... ANd the fairigns aren;t that bad...
SO heck... maybe I'll go witht eh CF gear and put on the goodies... Though the fairings won't quite slide all the way up the CF gear... Maybe I'll have a set made up a little narrower or the ones JRJohn is looking into will work off the bat.
Once I get the plane assembled... I'll be hitting the deisng station to mkae this thing sing like NO other ARF on the market (Heck it pretty much does that on it's own)

The stock gear works really well because it has some flex. It has saved my Yak on 2 occasions, once from a 12 foot fall directly onto the gear. The gear bent, but nothing broke. The gear have a long moment arm and I'm afraid that a real stiff CF gear won't be nearly as forgiving. The gear mount in the Yak is as close to bullet proof as you can get, with the aluminum angle brackets mounting to 1/2 inch ply.
The stock gear provides a good mix of weight, flexibility and scale appearance and just may save your plane. Plus replacements are fairly cheap. Something to consider.

Axles and wheels are now installed.
THe top of the gear are already drilled, but you need to align the gear onto the plate and then drill through the plate and through internal aluminum angle brackets.
This is a good idea because it doesn't take much to get pre-drilled holes out of whack at a factory... I prefer to drill my own, but it's nice the gear are already drilled...

Wanted to let you guys know too that no decals are included with the aircraft... something this big deserves the quality stuff and everyone will want something different (until they see mine tee hee)
I did order in carbon fiber, Cherry Red Prismatic and already have the "bling"... plus black, red, etc...
I already have most RC logos... EF, DA, Brillelli, JR, HiTec, Futaba, Spektrum, Smart-Fly, Fromeco, etc... SO once I get a chance to come up with some custom stuff... feel free to contact me via PM for any ideas you might for your own...
