Well guys, the Yak flew. She took off nice and stable and required 2 clicks of down trim. Might have the CG a little back as she seemed to be tail heavy but after a minute I was used to it. I have an empty smoke tank beside the fuel tank, will fill it up and fly again. Knife edge is beautiful. Rolls are unbelievable. The DLE55 was on fire and pull out was good. I know it will only get better when I can tune to the rich side of peak and start the 50-1 Stihl Ultra oil. Chris all I can say is thanks for this beautiful flyer. The Black/Yellow stands out so much on a cloudy day, can't wait for the sun to come out. Servo arms from the Hitech servo's worked fine but still looking forward to the ones I ordered from EF. They shipped on the 8th, with the CAN dollar around 95 cents I'm sure everybody and there dog is ordering from the US so it's probably sitting at customs. At least I got to fly. The wife is taking tomorrow afternoon off so I should have some video tomorrow. Thanks for all the help guys, I really appreciate it. MC

I've never had any trouble getting a nice flat spin out of 88" Yaks. We must be talking about different kinds of spins. I've seen profiles do some crazy pin wheels. That's not what I call a flat spin.

I can't wait to get my 88" Yak in the air.

Joe,

Here is what it will look like when you get your 110" Yak.

I went to fit my cowl and realised that i am missing the bonded washers for the cowl and the canopy. i really like these on my 110" as it completly stops the wear of the fibreglass. But i brought my plane from precision aerobatics in aust. i may just have to make some

Hey chris, is it worth contacting them over it? or am i just being a fussy bugger?

It's pretty nice eh? Glad you got to get 'er out. It's tough to have to wait an entire winter for a maiden. I did mine on Feb 14th of this year. The snow had melted and I was just itching to get her out. Had a great day of flying. Weather was pretty nice for mid-Feb. The ground was so frozen that I couldn't get my restraint into the pipes we have in the ground. It'll fly way better with the cowling. It won't knife edge very well without the cowling. I tried.

Joe,

Here is what it will look like when you get your 110'' Yak.

Charles, are those two 110's? It's hard to tell.

Plus did you actually get your 88 yet?

Wait I get it. Chris sold you his 88" Yak that he put together (I recognize it). The other one in your pic is the 110". They look the same size in those pic's.

salerno,
If you can't get the bonded washers, PSP makes a nice cowl unit. It's call "Cowl Binders". You can use the whole device or use just the outer half. They are what I use when I lose the bonded washers or wear them out. On my canopy, I don't use them. I drill out the wood to 1/4- 20 and thread the wood and use shorten nylon 1/4" screws. You can even paint them if you want and they never vibrate out. Easy mod and I think works better than machined screws.

The camera angle does make them look close. When I hold the 110 at the angle i'm holding the 88, The rudder is taller than my head.

Yes that was Chris' plane. It's in mint condition.

Joe,

Here is what it will look like when you get your 110'' Yak.

I did get where I could do the slow spinning flat spin. At least I started doing that type before I got furstrated and gave the plane to Steve. But I could never get the plane totally flat. I would say the nose was down about 5* or so. I'm not sure I know exactly but from about 300' or so I'd get maybe 5-7 rotations. And those are pretty cool but I just want to do the other kind as well. For the record....I could do the "pinwheel" type with many of my other planes. To name a few: 100cc Sukhoi, 50cc Reactor, 50cc QQ Yak, 33% TOC Yak (Steve also has this plane) Sometimes this is called a SD Yak or ? but it was a good flying plane also. I think someone else on this thread has one of those also...but the 88" is almost as big except in the wing span. Those are the gas planes I've owned that will do both. I've had quite a few glow planes that would do them...including the rising flat spin which is really cool. UCD both 46 and 60 size, Twist 40, Mayhem 3D 90, Velox 90 (this baby flew as good as any plane I've seen regardless of size) Fusion 90 (profile) and maybe another one or two that I can't remember. Anyways, it's fun to do all kinds of flat spins. They are my favorite thing to do with airplanes.

I may try my hand a a video but I'm sure nobody would watch it to conclusion after seeing Chris.....But I don't have a video camera or anyone to run it. But I think Steve does and maybe he can do a video. Are they hard to post here or do you do them on Youtube and post a link? I could do the Reactor and maybe the 110 for comparison. I do like to put them on the same channel and fly them both at the same time.

Thanks
Barry

Man I thought they were two 88s.. In DiamondDave's picture they really looked a lot different. How does that one fly without the engine?

Now I'm glad I got the Red/White one because they'll at least look different colors. Nice Fleet !!!!!!!!!

Thanks

Man I looked all over my computer and that's the only picture I can find of my 88 that is complete. I thought I had a lot more.

Thanks

I must be giddy tonight. I can't quit babbling. I didn't get my new plane today.....but surely tomorrow. I can't wait. And somehow I'm gonna begin work on it. I gotta fly that baby yet this season.

Joe Airport, do you have to quit flying in the winter where you are?

Many of you can fly all year round.....lucky bounders.
Thanks

It's easier to tell the size difference in these pictures.

Barry, They do a nice falling leaf without the motor.

If you have trouble finding the Bonded Washers there, A slice of fuel tubing between the cowl and a regular flat washer does good.

i did barry's method with the cowl, tapped the wood with 1/4-20, go some short nylon big head screws and some black rubber washers from ace plumbing area, i painted mine black too so they blended in, they worked great, never came loose, i use the bonded ones that came with it on my 110, 1 did come loose last week but i noticed it before flying and tightened it up, so far so good
ps, im the other guy on the thread with the sdyak, and yes it really does nice spins

If my math is correct those align servos only come out to 166oz torque at 6V...

I would not recommend that at all...
we suggest 180oz torque at a minimum! and really like to see more than that

also, I cannot tell if it is a metal gear servo... you really need to be using a metal gear servo.

The previous poster (exeter acres) is tech support for Extreme Flight so you can trust his answer....which I totally agree with. This is a big plane with huge surfaces. You need lots of torque. The Hitec 7955's are perfect for it. That's what I use.

stephane, did you order your Yak yet?

The Futaba 915X series are great too. Everybody seems to love them on their big gas planes.

This one looks good but 6volt only:
