Yak Man, how are you liking the Zoar prop? What kind of rpm range are you getting from it?

Thanks
I have never tached it, I have always tuned by ear, plug color and transition. Motorcycle - go kart - weed eater mentality, never had a motor overheat or die in the air, yet.....knock-on-wood.....
However, my personal experience is the verticle performance on the Brillelli 60 is better w/ the Zoar 24 x 8 over the Zoar 23 x8.
I have not tried the NX 23 x 8, Mejzlic 23 x 8, Zess 23A or the Menz 23 or 24 on the Brillelli, yet.
If it flies great don't fix it [sm=thumbs_up.gif]

It all affects the glue, epoxy curing time , building mind -set and WEATHER we can fly this great airplane.

UH, O.K. ????? Still don't understand how it would effect the people on the west coast. My point is this tread has gotten very long and many posts I have read would be better sent via personal e-mail person to person so as to keep the important stuff about building or assembeling this Yak.

Boss wears a ***** eating grin when he fly's that old yak. (sorry to be profane, but I can't think of a better way to put it to words) I'm sure it will be the same when he fly's his new one. I've seen him fly that old one a good bit. Him and another guy from on here(3dking) are the reason I made the plunge into these bigger planes. They just seem to be having too much fun when they fly them. The main thing that still gets me with his old yak is the way he tumbles that bad boy. You would almost think is was a helicopter in the way it goes over. Makes me wan't to break his thumbs.

Still got my fingers crossed to fly mine this weekend.

Talked to Chris this morning and I got on the waiting list for the 88.5" Extra. He said basically the same flight characteristics as the 88" Yak and in the 16 lb range. I guess the Extra fuselage weighs less, has less ROUNDNESS???? Is that a word or a description?

Okay, I will say it. "Who wants to start the Extreme Flight 88.5" Extra Thread?"
Its purdy... http://image.rcuniverse.com/forum/up...35/Fd91813.jpg

Does the new 88.5 EF extra have the wings on the thrust line with no dihedral?

The top of the wings may be flat. That's normal. As the wing is thicker
at the root as it is at the tip, some would call the difference diheldral. I
do. Maybe I am incorrect and there is another name for it?

I ust need to figure out where to hide the extra.

I always thought of the dihedral as in the angle between two lines if each wing panel had a line drawn from the center of the root rib to the center the tip rib. So flat on top and tapered on the bottom would be dihedral. If it was like <> it would be no dihedral. And if the top tapered down and the bottom was flat it would be negative dihedral or anhedral.

That Extra is beautiful. I have been on the waiting list since about February. It looks just about like I pictured it to be from Chris's description. It looks like a blown up 45" Extra.
I have many, many flights on the 45" and if the 88.5 flies anything like its little brother it will be tottally awesome.

Chris cant get those babies here soon enough.

I just wanted to say thanks to you guys at EF and to the people that answer all my questions here on RCU and also, to Desert Aircraft. The information obtained here is invaluable and I must say that DA has been VERY patient with me and all of my first time gasser questions. They always say don't hesitate to call so I call and call and call

I would like for EF to make a note in the manual about the picture of the fuel lines for the DA 50. The long fuel line that comes through the motor box does not connect to the "top" of the carb. It connects to the side where the throttle arm is. Only a newby would get confused on that one but still I think it needs clarification.

Thanks again,

Mustang

Alright. It's mostly been covered here, but I can't find the definitive answer. I know the firewall laser marks are not right for the DA 50. My manual did not come with the template. I downloaded the template from Maudib from page 48 or thereabouts. My question is that the template from Maudib has the holes equidistant vertically and horizontally from the vertical and horzontal centering lines. However, the lasered marks on the firewall are biased low and not centered vertically. Do I align the template lines with the lasered reference lines or do I simply use the offset vertical line and drill the holes in the same plane as the lasered hole marks.

Doug,

The lasered marked are correct but NOT the holes.

Align the template to the offset line (look at the face of the firewall the one to the right)

Yak Man, how are you liking the Zoar prop? What kind of rpm range are you getting from it?
The Zoar 24 x 8 on the Brillelli pulls better than the Zoar 23 x 8. I have never tached either, always have tuned motor by ear, plug color & transition...Motorcyle, go-kart, weedeater mentality. Knock on wood, I have never had a motor die or over heat yet. If it flies Great and runs Great, don't jack with it.[sm=thumbup.gif]

I haven't tried a NX, Menz, Mejzlic or Zess yet. Put in another 6 flights yesterday evening, no wind. The 88" Yak is a real treat, truly a pleasure to own & fly.
Thanks again to Chris & EF, Outstanding!

Yak Man,
How did you set up your cooling on the Brillelli? Do you have the front cowl baffle installed? Did you open up the bottom of the cowl? I test ran mine yesterday with no cowl and got 7050 rpm with a vess 23a. The engine is running rich as set by Scott. My non-contact thermometer showed a max temp of 186*. I would like to maiden in a day or two and want to make sure my set-up is ok. Based on my ground run I won't be using anywhere near full throttle to begin with so I would like to start out without the front baffle. I'm a newbie to gas, sorry for the worrisome questions. Thanks for everyone's invaluable help.

Hate to butt into the discussion you are having with YAk Man, but the baffle question applies to any motor. Other than an appearance/looks issue with the baffle, there is no reason why you shouldn't install it. It provides the proper cooling needed. But again, there are those who aren't using it.

Thanks Mokken. I know you are correct. I should install the baffle. I guess I'm just being impatient and want to fly. It really isn't a big deal to install and I would not even consider flying in the heat of summer without it. I also just wanted to be able to look into the cowl during the first few flights to check everything inside.

Well as I've said in earlier posts, go fly it now, it's not necessary that you put it on before flying. In fact as some have said, they are flying without the baffle and never intend on installing it. So don't worry about it. Go fly the plane and worry about that later, you are not going to hurt anything. It's just good practice to have good airflow to cool your motor.

I have been pondering getting a 50cc plane and this one is on the short list. I was wondering if any of you'se are transporting, or have a chance to see if on fits, in a Toyota Xtra Cab pickup. I have an '01 Tacoma that I would like to see if the fuse fits in, corner to corner, without the stabs. I *think* it will from some calculations and measuring, but I want to be sure, $650 is a lot to not be able to get it to the field.

Mike, It will fit in my Honda Element if I raise the front end and have the cowl between the front seats.
