I figured some folks might use the Klett 3/16" axles which have a very small axle base, so the hole in the gear is small.

O.K., dropped the template on the firewall and drilled for the Brilleli 60...
The cowl SWALLOWS this engine! (Like we expected)
It's hard to tell fromthe pics... but there is a full 1" between the velocity stack and the cowl side... and about 3/4" below the spark plug...
SO there MAY or MAY NOT be a need for a slot to be a slot made for the spark plug boot... The DA50 stock muffler I'm using will only need a hole for the stack cut... nothing for the can itself...
I'm starting to think the fake louvers aren;t such a bad idea...

Have you heard any input from Scott E. or Aerobob about fuel burn with the 366GT? Will 16oz be enough for a 14-15min flight or should I use a 20oz tank?

It's official... I will no longer be applying G-Glue to the hingepoints.. just in the hole (I used to do both).
Two reasons...
1) Less foam comes out near the knuckle (almost none actually) because the hinge pushes the glue into the hole, the hole doesn't scrape glue off the hinge
2) 5 different tests doing it that way either busted the hingepoint at the knuckle trying to pull it out... or I simply didn't have enough strength to pull it out myself.
(the loose end of the hingpoint in a vise... and me pulling the wood away from the hinge)
Awsome...
So now the steps will be:
Swap the holes of the trailing edge and the surface with a wet q-tip
Start with the trailing edge of a surface and apply a couple drops to each hole with a bamboo skewer poking and twirling it so it's fully coated the hole
Insert hingepoint that has had the knuckle dipped in melted vaseline
Then glue up the surface holes and slide it onto the hinges...
Tape the suface in place...
Occasionally wiping any foaming away and flexing the surface to make sure the hinges remain free...

I just spoke with Scott at Brillelli... eh said he thought maybe a 20 oz tank would be better... he will test it at 3/4 throttle...
My DA50's run 20 mins+ for sure... but 10cc's more...

Eagle Pilot... see my edited repsonse above... Scott says maybe a 20 oz tank would be better... he's gonna test...
He also said that pnce the spark plug boot is on there should still be 1/4" clearnace... meaning we mioght not have to cut for the sprak plus boot after all!

I would test it right away, but I have no 60's built right now. I sent the last 3 out to future EF Yak owners I do not think the 60 will use much more fuel than the DA 50 so I am betting it will be fine with a 16oz tank. I just would like to test it to be sure. Too many tasks, too little time !

I have a 16oz Dubro onhand, so I'll try a 20oz. But if the 20oz runtime is too long, I'll switch back to the 16oz rather than carrying around an excess amount of gas.
Also, I've experienced an appreciable increase in fuel burn when switching from an in cowl muffler to a tuned pipe setup on the same engine [sm=wink_smile.gif]

JR John is looking into finding some REALLY light CF gear... but he's not sure it will work yet...
I did happen to have a set of CF gear from Graphtech RC that I got for a 102" Quique Yak...
Guess what? It's almost IDENTICAL in size and shape!
Guess that tells ya how BIG and sclae this bad boy is 88" having 102" gear
THe GRaphtec gear are 10.6 oz so there's only a 2 oz savings... I suppose they don't have to be that "thick" because they are holding up an 18.5 lb plane (max) while the QQ 102 is like 25-26 lbs...

I am pretty sure I fly 15-20 mins on a 24oz tank and usually have about 1/3 left.. but that is lots of full speed KE circles and rollers. I think you could get away with a 16oz tank.

And I'll do just the opposite... I'll test the 16 oz and if it's not enough, I'll step up... (already have the 16 oz tank made up)

ALl hinged... man it takes NO time when yo don't have to try and coat the actual hingepoints... which most of it gets scraped off by the hole anyway and into the bevel/knuckle for cleanup...
Much cleaner this way and faster... lovin' it!
Now if my ailerons go flying inthe air one day.....
Seriosuly... I think the plane will have to blow up before the surfaces come off...
