Well guys,

I checked everything that I could.....

The Servos all work ( the expensive ones anyhow, not the throttle ), the engine is going back to Scott for repair. It actually looks almost ok cept for a dent on the muffler. The mpi regulator was dead.
Perhaps this was the culprit afterall.

It is so hard to tell anything about it.

I am still very nervous about putting the Dx 7 in something else though, because of the reboot time, but maybe I will get over that in time.


Thanks guys- I didn't know the mpi regs were that bad. I use them in my high performance sailplanes with 2 cell fromeco packs and never had a problem. I guess I will re evaluate that though!
Anyone know of reliable SMALL regulators that will fit into a sailplane fuse?

Chip, I think the MPI is OK in a sail plane. I could be wrong but I think it's vibration that kills the MPI Reg.

Daimondave did you get the black and yellow? It's so perrty, nice simple lines, not all busy like other planes.
I think the stock landing gear will also exaggerate a bounce on landing, I'm also thinking about a CF gear, thinking about the RC supergear.[sm=72_72.gif]

I like the way this plane floats in for landing.......I'm also flying off grass and haven't had any landing gear issues YET.

Compared to my Edge and TOC1 Yak.....this plane lands like a dream.

I'm trying to catchup reading all these posts! Good and helpful thread!! (at page 70 now. )
My B&W should ship in a week or so. - in the mean time, I was wondering if someone would measure the center hub portion of the cowling (baffle) vane for me. Judging by Mokken's admitted 4.5" spinner, it appears (from the back of his truckbed) to be 5.5" possibly? I'm seriously considering matching that diameter for my spinner and going with a three bladed prop. Will be bolting a DA50R w/ canister up front.
Comments - suggestions?? (I'm sure there is some opposition and collaboration in this effort and eager to hear both!)

If I understand the question right, it measures 4 5/8.

Thats the diameter of the center round area inside the vanes.

Look at the cowl pics on page 68. I believe he said his spinner was told to be 4.5". What gives?
(I would post his jpg picture but - can't get pictures to load; possibly a MAC conflict? I keep getting "error saving file to disk" message)

So the closest you might match it would be a 4 1/2 inch spinner. There should be no doubt that a 3blade on that setup would fly it. The question would be the performance level on a muffler or cannister. With the extra power of a pipe matched to a 3 blader my guess is that performance would do all you want from it. JMO

Come on over some time to the Daytona club. Especially after your plane is done, we could get a squadron of Yaks on the line[8D]

I'm using a 4" spinner......I think the only problem with using a 3 blade prop is having enough blade sticking out from around the cowl for prop wash.

Guys...

Horizon does offer a special unit that prevents the voltage from dropping too low... it's basically a capacitor I think... I just plugs into an open port 9or "Y" I suppose)

It's always better to have a strong electrical system from the get go... but this should prevent the reset (not that any of htese were related to the reset)

I am soon going to be doign some tests on the A123 packs which supposed lay out to 6.8 volts or so unregged... so they might be a great choice....

The prob with unregge'd receivers is the servos... some servos are VERY jiiter and unstable on 7.2+ volts (8 volts fresh charge) and though the 5955's can do it ... HiTec doe not recommend it... for whatever reason.

The issue is the throttle servo as most grab up a "cheaper" servo and again most of them act odd on higher voltage... just a heads up...

I heard a mumble about the huge diameter of the cowl and the 23" swing of the prop. Cowl might cut down on prop efficiency.
I am hesitant to go three blade (at this point) but certain it is needed to make a 1st. class YAK impression.

Regarding prop wash, I recently switched from a 22 inch prop to a 23 inch. I thought there was a noticable difference in my ability to control the airplane in a torqueroll. (better)

you are the man!!! got the ups tracking #'s, should be here thursday i believe, cant wait, i did get the yellow/black one, should be all its cracked up to be and then some, after figureing wing loading on my comp arf at 33.5oz, and me thinking that flew good, i should be astonished with this one with a wl in the upper 20's, i cant even imagine what it will be like

OMG!! I finished reading the thread!! Took 3days but I finished. I too am wanting one of these. I have the 74 and it's awesome,makes you feel very confident it your abilities. I'm waiting to sell my BME Yak Airframe to order this Yak.. I hope it sells soon so I dont have to wait until August to get the next shipment.

Guys...if one uses a DA-50 with a Bisson pitts style muffler, will the pipes exit the cowl in the same place as it did with the 87", and that was in the oil cooler square at the bottom? also what length stand-offs will I need to order 2.5 or 3" ?

Can someone tell me the voltage I should recharge my 4 cell nimh ignition battery at under a 1 amp load. I suffered a broken wire on my S.F. ignition regulator last week with my lithium setup and decided to go with a 4cell and no reg to simplify things a bit. I've always used lithiums and am not sure on the recharge voltage on these nimh. Thanks.

I think it should peak around 6.7,6.8. I also run a 4cell nimh on my ignition and I'm charging mine right now to go fly tomorrow. I will see what it peaks at.
