Default PAU/BME Edge III Pics and Maiden Report

Here are a few pics of the PAU/BME Edge that I put together for a friend....The maiden was yesterday and the Edge took everything that he could throw at it....One thing that was commented was how much better this plane flew as compared to his BVM Props 2X2 Edge. He couldn't be happier!!..From a building standpoint this plane goes together FAST and has many things included that are options on other kits...Such as carbon fiber wing and stab tubes, all hardware---And I mean ALL hardware!!!---Carbon fiber tail wheel assy...SWEET!!! Plus all of the wing, stab, AND fuselage covers....NICE TOUCH!! I installed a Lite Pilot's pilot in the canopy and put some gauges on the instrument panel---Including a funtional I4C volt meter...

I don't have a scale...I'll get with Ed to check the weight as he has a scale---We were guessing in the upper 15lb range buy the way it feels....The plane will roll two feet before pulling vertical on takeoff...

Very nice, I absolutely love my BME Edge. I've had it for about a year & it's still going strong.
BTW, if you don't like the rainbow power scheme they peel off and are replaced very easy.

I weighed mine when I finished it and I think it was 16.8 lbs.

Here's a pic of mine from last weekend.

As you can see tuwood's and my Avatars are both BME Edges, we like them very much.

Congrat's.

Kevin- What engine? DA-50?

Tuwood-- What engine? 16.8 lbs sounds heavy for what BME says it will be. I'll bet you are telling the truth, they may just fudge a bit.

Ed has a DA50 in his---Also, this is the Edge version III---I don't know if it is much lighter than the earlier versions but I think that it is claimed to be. Also, your weight will fluxuate with your equipment. Ed's Edge has the standard DA muffler and not a Pitts style or a canister w/header that are heavier.

Ed flew his Edge again today and says it is a REAL sweetheart...Again, MUCH better than the BVM Props Edge 2X2 that he was flying...He's a happy camper to say the least...[sm=thumbs_up.gif]

Kevin

PS---I have a DL50 in a Chip Hyde Vision---This would be an excellent engine for this plane---Low cost but better performance than the DA50...

OK, you got me thinking so I went out to the garage & threw the wings on & weighed it again. Bouncing between 16.8 & 16.85. I trust my scale pretty well, but I'd say at most it would be off a quarter to half a pound.

I'm running a DA-50 with Slimline Pitts, dual Fromeco 2400 LiIon Batts w/ reg's on RX, & single 2400 LiIon w/ reg on ignition.
The only other non essential weight I have is a smart-fly ignition cutoff switch.

So, I'm guessing if I went to single battery & the standard DA can I'd be under the 16.5 high end BME quotes on their website.

I will say it floats at it's current weight, so I'm not complaining.

With DA 50 and Slimline pitts, NiMh batts, I was at 17 pounds 4 oz. Floats real good but my Utra RC Yak at 15 pounds 12 oz flies like it's filled with helium in comparison. This Edge is a great flyer. Doubt I will ever sell it.

I received my new Edge540III last week. No damage to boxes(thanks UPS), everything looks real good, this is my second gasser. My first is the H9 cap232 with the evolution 45gx2 engine, it has been flawless for the last two months, so I decided to buy another gas. I ordered the DA50 engine and later after reading the forum, I ordered the Edge540II. Thanks to all the info from RCU and nobody at the field had an Edge540, almost everyone has a Yak. I am about half way thru. I am using the kevlar for the pull-pull and all JR servos and radio. Thanks for all the great pics, they have been real helpful.

Congrats, you're gonna love it. I too am the only one at my field with a BME Edge. It's nice to be a little different.

I'm sure you've already found it, but there's a ton of great information in this thread: [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_3081919/anchors_3081919/mpage_1/key_bme%252Cedge/anchor/tm.htm#]NEW 30% BME EDGE II[/link]

Me, JoeAirPort, & several others put all our build pictures & setups in there.
