Okay gents has anyone used the new Futaba S9156 high torque digital servo yet? If so what is the verdict compared with other brands...okay here we go, major flames coming with that question!

I would love to try these but they won't be available until late August. I think the only feedback you will get it from sponsored pilots so time will tell.

I thought they put them on the market, then pulled them because of a gear issue.

I didn't know that, I just noticed Tower is showing late August as an available date. It was late July but changed this week.

I have been using several in my gas burners for some time with excellent results. I am getting away from the jr 8611a's due to gear issues. As I understand it they just ran out and the next shippment is due in August.

I went to a hobby shop here in Orlando and asked for these 9156 servos. They didn't have them so the owner called their distributor and they told him that futaba was getting a bug fixed regarding the gear on this particular servo. They said they preferred to fix the problem right away than to wait and have to make a re-call on the product that has already been sold. When they do come out in late august/september, they will be perfect and no more bugs.
I would never trade the quality futaba servos have for anything else. Their gears are very smooth, almost no friction in them and have always been really strong. It is a good thing they found out about the gear problem before they sold a bunch of them.
That being said, I will wait to get the new servos I need for my next project and they will be the 9156 for sure.

Give Bill Hemple a jingle. He'll be straight up with you about any Futaba product that he uses. The new servo is one of them. He's a hands on guy, not just a user.

Have you guys seen this: http://www.troybuiltmodels.com/servo_testing.htm very interesting on the loss of torque once the servo's has heated up and the current draw.

I spoke to someone at Futaba today about the S9156 servo gear issue. He told me in a not so polite way that there is no issue with the gears in the S9156. He said they are on back order from Japan and that is the only reason they are not available. This seems strange given the reports of gear issues.

Not strange at all if you think about it. If they were as good as they appear to be, and they were priced competitively with the other two biggies, who might not appreciate them crowding the market? What would happen if they had an extremely smooth and accurate gear train, were very fast, had very low wear rates, possessed mogambo torque, and didn't fail? I can't for the life of me think of any person or manufacturer that might not welcome that kind of competition in a market that's been dominated for years by only two manufacturers. Can you?

SS,
You are right, all valid points. I kind of figured if it was that good alot more people would be talking about them. Now if I can only put the 5955 gear train in an 8711.

One of these days I'll slow down and proof what I write. Sheesh.

My experience with Futaba servos, which, btw, is purely professional since they are used in the company product, is that they are indeed that good. At least with one model servo that you would not think capable of doing the job it was assigned. If I used a Futaba tx and rx I don't believe I'd have a need to go "outside the house" for servos.

SS,
O.k., I must say you are losing me on this one. Are you saying from your experiences that the are good or?

Covered in my PM to you. If I personally flew Futaba equipment I would not have any need of somebody elses servos.
